What is a bridge (In a song)
-Ryan
Well, in a song you generally have verses and the chorus, and then there's another short part which doesn't sound like the verse or the chorus, and that's the bridge. It adds interest to the song. On most songs you should be able to tell what part is the bridge.
Did I explain that right? I know exactly what a bridge is but I can't seem to find the words to explain it.

<font color=navy>I think Amy explained it right. I'm just adding to it. Bridge usually comes near the end of the song before chorus. It's kinda like a climax of a song. And I don't think this is a dumb question.</font>

I bridge usually comes after a verse, and choruse and maybe another verse and chorus...but it is not a rule...it adds diversity to the song and dynamics....thats what it is meant to do....A great example of this is Clear's song "Jesus healed my blindness". Hope that helps! <ben>

Well, a bridge doesn't really have a defined place in the song except that it doesnt ever open the song. The bridge is meant to give a clearer picture of what the artist is trying to say, it is a small glimpse through a bigger window of meaning than the rest of the song is using. Musically, most songs incorporate either an altered strum pattern or use different chords than are found elsewhere, like the bVII or bIII chords.

Yea the reason why bridges are so revealing is cus the artists doesnt write the bridge till later...and he has time to think about what to say...its written off of less emotion...so its not as dynamic but its more clearer...at least its that way for me! <ben>

It is usually 8 bars long.. it is used to kinda leave the song hanging then reconnect.. bridge.. it can be used for added intensity, expression.. allowing time to think about what has been said up to that point.. etc.
