Wasn't really sure where to put this...anyway, we just got a new plasma TV (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F6SR0O/sr=8-1/qid=1154809876/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-1286992-4320615?ie=UTF8), and my dad won't let me hook the xBox up to it because he's afraid of burn-in. I've read lots of things on the internet about it, but I haven't been able to find anything on it in a forum. Does anyone have personal experience with burn-in? Is it something we should worry about?

I know with lcd's you got nothing to worry bout but I know wiht plasma's my firends dad is the same way but he lets him as long as your not letting it sit if you let it sit on one screen for to long it will so if your going to pause it or something turn the tv off.

video games are somewhat hazardous to play on plasma TV due to burn in. why? think about the heads-ups display common in most games, it sits there for hours when you play, causing burn in over time. i've heard that this isn't a problem if the screen has been properly setup, though. however i wouldn't risk it unless someone who knows alot about plasma TVs says it's a non-issue. try the xbox forums, before the 260 came out there was a very good topic on there about plasma TVs and burn-ins.

From what I'm hearing, burn-in is a non issue on the new generation of plasma tvs, but I would still avoid leaving any image up on the screen when you are not using it, just in case.

I wouldn't worry about video games, unless you are doing a 3 day non-stop marathon halo tournament or something.

I would just play it safe. I mean i am not sure how hardcore gamer you are, but i would use caution

it can, quite easily in fact. maybe with the new ones it's harder to do, but with videogames, those HUDs are up there in the same place every time you play, it's not a mater of a 3 day halo marathon, but the fact that eachtime you play, that time adds up. let's say you have to leave an image up on a certain plasma screen for 100 hours before burn in. if you play halo 1 hour a day, you're got a little over 3 months before the heads up display become permanantly a past of the screen. 2 hours a day? closer to six weeks. so best to paly it safe. oh, i noticed that some small CRT hi-def TVs are under $150 now, at least at my local target.
