my MP3 player stopped working. when i try to turn it on it shows the company name Memorex, then the firmware version number, and then (it should go straight to the first song) it turns itself off. the screen goes completly blank, but the backlight stays on. does anyone know why it is doing this? i use it alot and i like it because it is simple to use. also i am thinking about buying new one if i can't fix this one, how many MP3 players are there that have a exspension slot for a SD memory card? mine does but i have looked on the internet and i can't find very many. i have been thinking about a ipod, but how durable are they? they have a small hard drive and a glass screen so i guess they could brake easly (i have been carrying my MP3 player in my pocket. that and can you transfer music from a ipod to a computer using Windows Media Player? any help or advice would be helpful, thanks

Have you checked the battery?
Seriously. I've done things like that before. :stare:
One of mine broke because I wrestled with it in my pocket...it acted pretty much the same way. Have you tried to get in touch with the company?

It's the battery for sure. ;) :brick:
mmm, could be the battery, it could be the firmware, i suggest an ipod, new or used, or the creative zen whatever it is, they sell it at wal-mart 20gb's like less than 150 it's outdated but it works.. and it's 20 gigs... you can't tell me that you don't want 20gigs...

i tried using new batteries (both rechargeable and non-rechargeable) and that didn't fix it. i looked at the website for the company because there was a firmware upgrade that you could download for it but i think it has been discontinued because i can't find it on the site anymore. ihad upgraded it at one point but it started to act up so i removed the upgrade. i do have the cd that came with it, but i'm not sure were it is. i can transfer files to it without a problem, and it will turn on when it is connected to my PC. i also tried formating it using my computer and that didn't work. i checked and there is nothing inside of it that would keep it from working. i am starting to think that it might have something to do with the firmware.

Do you have a warranty on it? My mp3 player has broken before, and they replaced it.

i don't think so. the one button broke so i glued it, and i lost the battery compartment cover awhile ago.

So dont tell him to get rid of his and get osmeting when he's not asking for it or if he has even stated he has given up on his previous.
Im saying this now cause it will get worse l8er if someone doesnt.

between the fact that there's a broken button, battery case, the company has gone out of business/model has been discontinued, and that the thing won't run says it's time to get a new one. in some cases it's not worth trying to fix something, this might be one of those cases.
as for ipods, they're quite durable, and i'm unsure as to why you're worried about them having hard drives. (i am under the impression that hard drives are better) as for transfering music, you can only put music on an ipod, not take it off. (although you can back up music files on it, but you can't listen to those files) and AFAIK windows media palyer won't put music on it, although itunes can convert unprotected WMA files and use them. as for durability, in my experience they're very durable. (and that experience includes when my sister dropped her's onto a concrete floor) the only thing that doesn't hold up will is the aluminium back, it's get scratched extremely easily.
you can use programs like ephpod to back up your music, and listen to it... unless it's protected, which it doesn't have to be to play it.. i have had 2 iPods! it rocks
