This isn't something that can really be taught! If there were a set way of doing things, I'd have to say you could follow the following steps.

1) Stay in tune with God. (It's very hard, but try to keep your quiet time going, and the line of communication flowing)

2) Try to pick songs that speak about whatever the message is going to be about.

3) Allow God to flow. If you are in the middle of leading and you feel that you should extend a song a little longer because people are worshipping, then do it! God has his reasons and it's probably because someone is truly in the presence of God and they are making things right, or just voicing praise.

Just mainly be open to God's voice! If you are constantly listening to God then He'll let you know what to do. He won't leave you hanging. Of course then again, you could also not be called to worship, and it might never come together because of that, but you can still lead singing just not true worship.

IMO and knowledge,
K-Max

Hope some of that helped...

I agree with rain. The more time you spend with God in you're intimate alone time DAILY!!!!!! The more prepared and in tune with the Holy Spirit you will be when that problem arises again.
More time with God, more annointing. Less time with God, less anointing. Get the picture. One last thing, I can't stress enough, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. The Lord expects us to take our gifts and excell in them for his glory.
God bless and good luck!:D

I want to let you know that I have experienced the same thing. I joined our praise and worship team knowing basic blues. Of coarse I learned the blues and then done went and got saved. But God had a plan. After one year of me joining the team the Bass player quit, the piano player left for another church, the other Guitarist and sometime vocalist left the church, the pastor son got married and moved. And this left me my guitar a drummer ( only on Sunday mornings ) and of coarse the Holy Spirit. I have had my share of train wrecks during service. But God had a plan and I had a passion. God has done incredible things in the last 2 years, but the most important thing I have learn from this huge responsiblilty is that God does not give us anything we can't handle, but He does make sure it is big enough that we can't handle it on our own. I have lead 200 people in worship with me strumming, and in some countries that would be the worship team

1. Pick easy songs, ones you feel comfortable with and feel them don't just burn through them.

2. If the Kids see you getting into worship it makes it easier for them.

I agree... And I add this bit of encouragement.

James 1:4 "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

;)

I think God does the most amazing things in our lives when we are uncomfortable. So, instead of saying hang in there, I will say "Hang On." God is starting something with you (and maybe in you) and believe me you don't want to miss this ride!

Oh... and I add this to the instructions... filter all the feedback you are going to get through the Word and the Holy Spirit's discernment.
