I was wondering... how many of you guys are blues fans? Ok, now that you've passed that question, what artists do you like?
I'm a big fan of Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, BB King and Robert Johnson, among others. You gotta like the Blues, if it wasn't for guys like these, there would be no rock and roll.

I love blues. (Hence the name) I'm not a purist though. I play mostly blues on guitar, but I listen to blues based players like Page and Hendrix more than authentic blues. The really primitive guys like Robert Johnson bore me to tears.
Some of my favorite actual blues players are: Freddie King (the greatest blues man ever), Clapton, Albert King, Otis Rush, etc...
(By the way, this is my 100th post! :) )

nestaman, you're gonna laugh, but once again our musical tastes agree.....
i am a HUGE clapton fan..... in my eyes he is one of, if not the, best guitarists ever because of his versatility and the emotion he puts into his songs....
wow this is nuts that our tastes are so similar

Ha.
Yeah, I really like the blues based guys like Hendrix, Page and Peter Tosh (had to add him) too. Like I said, blues is the basis for most all other music.

Eric Clapton is awesome! I like him all the way back to the days of Cream! :D
I also like Kenny Wayne Shephard....he's got a bluesy sound and he's a good guitarist....and he's like 24 or something....:D
But of course....Hendrix is an awesome guitarist.....probably the greatest....and Jimmy page isn't so bad himself ;)

Stevie Ray is cool, but Kenny Wayne sucks!
I know that no guitarist is completely original, and all guitarists, including me, borrow and steal from their heros. Kenny Wayne Shephard, however, steals to the point of plagerism. Yes, he has good blues technique, but his style is simply a lesser version of his one and only musical influence, SRV.
He even tries to copy the look: An old sunburst Strat with heavy strings and the paint worn off and a big guitar strap that says "KWS" in big white letters.
To me, KWS is a pathetic wanna-be.

Well...I guess that is why i am glad that musical tastes are merely opinion! :D

I'm not a big Kenny Wayne Shepard fan, but I do have respect for SRV, he could play guitar like no other. I don't know enough about KWS to say if he's a 'rip off'.
Speaking of Clapton, I'm listening to Unplugged right now. I have to agree with the emotional aspect of his music, just one listen to Tears in Heaven will prove that point. If that's not emotion into music at it's purest, I don't know what is.
