6)Lifehouse
Lifehouse are all Christian, they used to lead worship at their church, and their lyrics are pretty obviously Christian, the only reason people question them on here is because they're succesful in the mainstream. Well, there's my tangent about that, about the other bands.
Jimmy Eat World is a awesome band, and dispite the fact they're not Christian, they have positive messeges in their songs. Maybe I'll get to the others later. OUT!

I guess I referred to them as secular because I'm so used to them being considered secular artists....but it doesn't matter to me

OK, I'm going to show my age and sound like a stick in the mud, but...
All of those bands are bland and generic and suck.

That's kool.....you like Kenny Wayne Shephard?
Hey Pleasurepain.....When you see the first two Offspring albums...which two are you talkin about? here is the actual order of Offspring cd's:
1) The Offspring
2) Ignition
3) Smash (tied for Best)
4) Ixnay On The Hombre (tied for best)
5) Americana (not recommended....only for true offspring fans)
6) Conspiracy of One

sorry, but ixnay on the hombre definetly grabs the best album prize and dashes down the street with it.
bluesjunkie, what kinda stuff do you like (blues obviously but who)?

12-03-2001, 02:45 PM
Wow.....scottyboy, you're the man! I don't know that many people that have heard of Ixnay...let alone, like it.....I would say it's my fav with songs like Me and My old Lady, Gone Away, Meaning of Life, and Change the World (basically the whole cd).....But Smash has some kool songs, too: Genocide, Gotta Get Away, Not the One, Nitro (youth energy), and Self Esteem...

Foo Fighters are great... I can listen to the acoustic version of "everlong" over and over...

hey, that's kool....as long as you're not referring to Americana....And the Kenny Wayne thing was directed to the other guy (since he's bluesy), but it's ok if you like him too! ;)
Hey Alison....I love that song...I think it's the koolest song I've learned how to play that is in dropped d tuning! :D ( maybe tied with the long repetitious part to Schism: Tool)

yeah, ixnay was the first offspring album i heard, which was slightly disapointing in a way cos they havent really reached those heights again. and they are getting way old. so less chance of them getting there again.

*honorable mention* CAKE -heck yeah, honorable mention! ;)

6)Lifehouse - they're Christian, yes?
5)Our Lady Peace - uhhh...?
4)Creed - eh, i kinda get really sick of em really quickly
3)Linkin Park - heck yeah! right on!

Yeah, but "the kids aren't alright" is a good song.

As far as the TRUE offspring sound goes....there are about 4-5 songs on Americana which are allowed to be in that categor:
Have You Ever
The Kids Aren't Alright (best on the cd)
Feelings
End of the Line
No Brakes
Why Don't you get a job would go under a category with Don't Pick It Up (Ixnay) and What Happened to You? (Smash)...
The Newest cd is a little bit better....even though it's a little bit of a redeveloped sound...all of the songs are good with the exception of Original Prankster....:D
Arok rik sounds like you recognize good music...(I can understand how Creed can get old...they play them out on the radio....which is why I no longer like With Arms Wide Open and Higher)....which Lit cd did you get? was it the first one (I forget the name...something about tripping or trapping...), A place in the sun, or Atomic?

Ixnay's the only Offspring cd I own. I kinda like Smash better (I've loved Self Esteem since I was like 13), but I haven't ever bought it. Punk's not really my thing, but the Offspring are on my cool band list (not my top 10, though).

Anyone who likes or appreciates offspring is very kool! Self Esteem used to be my fav song, too.... but now...it's kinda hard to say...I'll put my top 10 in another thread....:D

bleachedrhino-interesting name, btw ;)
It was A Place in the Sun I believe... like I said, I listened to it a few times and STILL couldn't bring myself to like the bulk of the CD, so I gave it to my friend, Matt. :) Oh, and you can just call me Amanda. And yes, I happen to like my taste in music. *grin*

Hey that's kool insane drummer....i was really jokin about that anyway....;)
Dude Senor Papa Cabasa, you rock dude! First off, you recognize that Offspring's OLD SCHOOL is good (first thing i saw;)). And then, you say that Incubus' Make Yourself cd was awesome...and it most definitely is--> Kool power chords and distortion, upbeat with some rad turntables, Brandon's awesome vocals, and a song that sounds retro kool (Battlestar Scralactica). And finally, you note some other kool bands!
Plus, i know you like MxPx...:D

12-07-2001, 04:12 PM
I happen to like the occasional, easy to play, Dropped D, heavy distorted sound...Linkin park uses that, kool hip hop kinda lyrics, and Chester's vocals at the chorus (the one who does more of the screamin kinda stuff)....:D

Whoa, can anyone say "pointless thread ressurection"?
I can. :D
For future reference, karaiki, we try to avoid posting in threads more than three or four months old without a reason.

who revived this?
It's quite simple to tell by simply looking at the date/time info.
And my old post is now defunct and meaningless.
Not really. It still has meaning. Sure, it may be info that has changed over the years, but still there is meaning.

These bands are under appreciated. :brick: :duh:
Um...everyone one of those bands is relatively mainstream with many, many fans. I'm not sure you know the meaning of under-appreciated. If anything, bands like Linkin Park and Staind are over-appreciated.

I don't think I could type/form proper sentences a few years ago.
Hahahaha. This thread is hilarious. I failed to notice the date of the posts, and all I could think was "Dear Lord, what happened to Travis and Scott?"
Thankfully, my fears were alleviated. CGR's secular music forum wouldn't have been the same without them.
Josh.
