Paul McCartney when he was in the Beatles. He always played tastey lines that fit the song perfectly.

Geddy Lee of Rush!
Oooo yeah.
yo...the kid from the supertones sucks...sorry, but someone had to say it; i met the guy, but he's really not an incredible bassist...not to say that ska ENCOURAGES excellent bass playing
(sorry if that offended anyone)
BUT-I, too will have to readily concure as to how brilliant Victor Wooten is...wow
Geddy Lee's just tight
Traa Daniels, from P.O.D. is the best dropped-D bassist I've ever heard
John Paul Jones, from Led Zeppelin
Berry Oakley, now-deceased bassist for the Allman Brothers Band
Juan Nelson's, from Ben Harper, bass just sings
and don't anybody forget tone-master, Dave Schools from Widespread Panic...
the majority of contemporary rock bassists that don't suck are heavily influenced by Phil Lesh, of the grateful dead

Jon Cooper of Skillet and Will McGiniss of Audio Adrenaline
One time I got to see Mojo (O.C. Supertones) play bass when they did "Wilderness." That was pretty cool. He did pretty good too.
