Hi. I'm wanting to use my Line 6 POD XT Live on an amp that does not have an effects loop. It has a line in on the front of my amp instead. Does a line in function the same as an effects loop? The line in will give me a direct line in to my power amp but will it sound the same as the effects loop. Thanks. Matthew.

It wont be an effects loop because you aren't looping anything. Rather, you would bypass the amps internal preamp and uitlize the power amp to amplify the POD. I've done this with a Boss ME-5 and was satisfied with the results. If you were to run the POD in a true effects loop, then the sound quality would change as the signal going into the POD would be colored by the amplifer's pre-amp section (volume, gain, eq, etc.). BTW, would this be a tube or solid state amp?

It's a solid state. So what your saying is that what will be coming out of my amp speakers will be totally from the POD and nothing from the amp? Will this sound good or will it sound thin? Thanks.

A good power amp should not color the signal at all. I don't have a lot of experience with the POD, but it should not sound thin. You may have to play around with eq settings a bit, but it is a very workable set up. Some people may feel that devices like the POD or Boss GT may sound too "digital" or "sterile" especially if it is going through a solid state amp, but these are opinions and you need to let your ears be the judge.
