I edited the title of your thread. I think some people might have been offended by your replacement of the f-bomb with a similar word, so I didn't want to take any chances on that. Not to be a prude, but we do need to be respectful still of others on the boards. Thanks.

yeah i realised that it might offend some after i'd already made it.... and while i don't agree with this sort of editing.... its no biggie because i don't wanna offend anyone.

Well, as Admin on this board, I have a responsibility to edit where I feel necessary and I hardly EVER edit, so I don't abuse that at all. I just didn't want anyone to be offended and I'm sure people would have been offended.
Thanks for understanding.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this tread! In fact I never knew there was a secular music forum, oh well.
DMB is tied for my all-time favorite band (with Bob Marley and the Wailers). Christmas Song is definitely one of their best songs, some of my other favorites are Ants Marching, Warehouse, Lie in Our Graves and Grace is Gone.
Just wondering, have any of you heard that new song called either "Superman" or "Where are you going?". I downloaded it the other day and it's really cool... kind of Grace is Gone - like.

I have to give a shout out to #40 and Stay, too. I forgot those earlier. I'm a loser, I know...

Does anyone else think that the older stuff was better??...I like some of the stuff on the new album, but the songs that i would consider my favorites all come from older Cds...

it depends on my mood. sometimes the older stuff is better, but other times i love the new cd

Yeah, I like the new cd, but I really don't find myself listening to it very often. I love 'When the World Ends' and 'Everyday', then again 'Everyday' is actually just an old Dave song called #36 with some variations (oh, the picky guitarist that I am). Personally, my favorite Dave cd is Listener Supported. It's DMB at their best, live.

i actually prefer live at luther college, which is just dave and tim playin some phat guitar. but as far as the DMB goes, my favorite project of theirs is probably Listener Supported

Yeah, Luther's actually my second favorite. Like I said I prefer the live stuff and it's hard to beat Dave and Time mixing it up.

true true....
seeing how i'm talking to a bob marley fan, what do you think of Dave's cover of Exodus???
i think its a pretty sweet song...
nestamanchris
12-05-2001, 03:02 PM
Aww yeah, Brian. I really like it, he's only played it a few times but it kicks. I almost like it better than Marley's version of the song. Theres also a pretty sweet Dave cover of Stir It Up floating around too, but the sound isn't too good and DMB does better justice to Exodus if you ask me.
Watch out, I can go on and on about Dave and Bob... :)

i haven't heard the stir it up cover...

The Dave Matthews Band...
1) Has some very talented musicians.
2) Is very original and creative with their music.
3) IS NOT MY STYLE
I think the Dave Matthews Band is a very good band...but I couldn't listen to them that long...I get tired of Dave's voice, lack of distortion, and I'm not that fond of the Sax and Violin (or whatever it is that the guy plays) in Rock music together....Don't get me wrong...I give DMB props...But I personally don't like them...maybe just a couple of songs (MOST DEFINITELY NOT THE SPACE BETWEEN!)...maybe Crash, Why the Word You Say?, and Everyday (Dave by himself)...
WEll...just had to say that...felt like I was avoidin the thread.....

Hey, Bleach, that's cool. Everybody has their own thing. I know a lot of people who only like a couple songs or none at all. A lot of what you don't like about DMB is precisely what I do like about the band. They don't sound like most bands out there now b/c of their instrumental selection, which I like. Either way, it's all love in the Dave thread.
BTW, it's What Would You Say ;) . Peace, brotha  .

awww you taught me much better, and for what its worth, i remembered the reason that i, as an Ohio State fan should hate Clemson just as much as you do! i'll hafta fill ya in on that sometime...
but anyways....................
the statement that everyone needs to finish:
My favorite Dave Matthews Band/ Dave and Tim song is......................................................
for me, the answer is So much to say.
nestamanchris
12-13-2001, 06:21 AM
Yeah, I know why, but not the exact details of the situation....
This is nearly impossible to narrow down one of each but I'll try:
DMB song - PNP/Rapunzel (live version), although maybe Stay, or Warehouse or Ants (all of these being my favorites at the moment)....
Dave/Tim song - Christmas Song

I must agree. Live at Luther College is amazing. I love listening to Tim play. His solos are incredible. I taped VH1 Storytellers of Dave and Tim playing together. The way Tim's hands move and the way his expression never changes--perfect. He's so at ease. Dave too. Dave's left hand just dances across the neck of his guitar. I hold too much admiration for those guys.

hey punk, is BLOG any good as far as web logs go? I thought about starting one, but the whole effort thing dissuaded me.
Carly.

I can tell you all about BLOG! (go blog) But not here. This is for DMB. Please PM me! I'll tell you all about it! It's well worth it. So fun!
punk.
PS. What do you mean by web logs?
nestamanchris
12-15-2001, 12:40 PM
heh heh, punk... keeping threads on topic, I respect that. I've been trying to tape storytellers for the longest time, but VH1 hardly ever shows it and when they do I never get to see it... oh well. I know what you're saying about Dave's hands. I have the Listener Supported video and it's amazing to watch his left hand on songs like Rhyme & Reason and Warehouse; he has such a fluid motion.
Oh... I forgot my all-time fave Dave song: Lie In Our Graves... I love that main riff... Grace is Gone is up there, too... Yeah Brian, the Dave & Tim version of What Would You Say is awesome, I love how they slow it down and it gets a more bluesy feel... good stuff... and the breakdown

I think I shall post the lyrics to the Christmas Song, because it is the season for that and also I just darn well feel like it! :D
She was his girl; he was her boyfriend
Soon be his wife; take him as her husband
A surprise on the way, anyday, anyday
One healthy little giggling dribbling baby boy
The wise men came three made their way
To shower him love
While he lay in the hay
Shower him with love love love
Love love love
Love, love is all around
Not very much of his childhood was known
Kept his mother Mary worried
Always out on his own
He met another Mary for a reasonable fee, less than
Reputable was known to be
His heart was full of love love love
Love love love
Love love is all around
When Jesus Christ was nailed to his tree,
He said "Oh Daddy-o I can see how it all soon will be
I came to shed a little light on this darkening scene
Instead I fear I spill the blood of my children all around."
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
So the story goes - so I'm told
The people he knew were
Less than golden hearted
Gamblers and robbers
Drinkers and jokers, all soul searchers
Searching for love love love
Love love love
Love love is all around
Preparations were made
For his celebration day
He said "Eat this bread think of it as me,
Drink this wine and dream it will be
The blood of our children all around"
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children all around
Father up above, why in all this hatred have you filled
Me up with love
Fill me love love love
Love love
And the blood of our children all around.
K. I'm done. :D

Uhh, not exactly. Leave it to the me to spoil the fun... Dave started playing guitar when he was 9 and eventually attended some community college for 2 years. He was a bartender when he started writing songs.
Carter Beauford, the drummer, started playing at the age of 3 and hasn't looked back. I haven't been able to find whether or not he went to college.
I also haven't found out whether or not the saxophonist, Leroi Moore, went to college.
The bassist (Stefan Lessard) joined the group through a teacher who was also a friend of Dave at age 16 and eventually dropped out of school. The DMB website says he earned his GED and is currently taking some college courses.
Boyd Tinsley, the violinist, studied music at the University of Virginia but never received a PHD. He was a 16 year old virtuoso but passed up playing in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to stay in Virgina with his family and eventually joined DMB in '91.
There's the actual story behind the guys. Let's just say Travis is to Tool what Chris is to DMB.
Ah well. I don't know where my friend got that then. But hey, their still experienced, right?:)
Scott

tis pretty impressive, considering most bands are just a group of guys who half know how to play their instruments.
