My brother wants a bass amp for christmas, something more powerful than the one he has now (15W i think) Anybody know where can get him one that will not cost a fortune, like maybe the $200-$300 range?

I’ll sell you my Fender Bassman 60 for $300 (paid $380). It’s only six months old, in perfect shape. Check it out at Fender’s web site or local shop. It’s a good amp, but wasn’t powerful enough for what I needed it for. Let me know!

i'm getting a crate 100watt for christmas. its $350, but it has built-in effects, so its worth the extra money. you should maybe look into those.

Fender, SWR, and Peavey have decent products in that price range. Also, Musicians Friend has been advertising a new Gallien Krueger backline model for less than $300.

'Tis after Christmas now, so it really doesn't matter anymore, I'm sure....but the LA-15 is made by SWR and not Ampeg. It's SWR's new(er) more 'affordable' line. I dug the LA-15 that I played recently at one of the local shops...pretty nice. If you get anything locally, though, I'd recommend you ask for one that's still in the box as the floor models can get beat up a bit.

I don't feel the SWR LA-series is a very good repesentation of the SWR sound. The LA amps I've played didn't sound very good.

I went to GC to try out the LA-12 and LA-15. SWR makes great higher end stuff so I figured if the "economy" line sounded good, I'd take one home. Turned out I wasn't impresses with the LA series at all. They sounded rather thin and not very loud for their 100W rating. I ended up buying a used SWR Workingman 10 (80W) at another store for $260. It sounded much better to me...

personally, I prefer Ampeg, but Hartke makes some killer amps, too.

Be happy, bro.. you got a great deal. I paid over $400 for my Workingman's 10 new, but dang is that a sweet amp, especially for the size.
Nothing better for rehearsals or quick gigs when you don't wanna drag a 4x12 around :D

Random:
- SWR Super Redhead.. is one of the greatest bass amp i have EVER heard.., it's pricy.. but, whoa.. the sound is awesome.

Not random (?):
- The Hartke Kickback 12 isn't bad at all.. it's pretty sweet. 120 watts.., it has the works. i'm not sure about the price.. but our church has both.. and the hartke isn't too far behind the swr :D . i think it's sorta around that price range u have.. so, yea, just a thought.

I just got an opportunity to play on a redhead at my local music joint...PHENOMINAL!!

I was so suprised at the crisp, clean juice coming out of that badboy, I was swimming in a river of drool!

The next week, it was gone

pricy, oh yeah... sixteen hundred bones and change kinda pricy

but worth every penny... you betcha!

im currently looking for an amp to use in my band, that will do justice to my Sting Ray. We have two guitarists, using 130-150 watts amps. any idea of how much power im going to need? is 450 watts enough?

Reuel

yes, it should, unless your drummer is still the loudest-u should be able to hear everybody just fine, even when the drums are miked.

is 120W enough?

check out:

www.musiciansfriend.com
check out rogue and behringer bass amp they are both 120W(peak) but i don't know the quality of the behringer one.
the rogue cost $249 with out tax or shipping but still it wont go over $300 when you buy it coz i bought one and it is not that bad it is okay for begginer or intermediate bass players.

youcan also check out an ash down amp
it is more of a name brand but i think it is like $399 not including shipping.
i recommend these sites to look at amps:

www.musiciansfriend.com
www.zzounds.com
www.music123.com
www.samash.com
www.americanmusical.com
www.bassnw.com

thos are the one's that i use to look at musical instruments and stuff!
