"NC" chord??

Sometimes, when reading a tab, I see 'NC' over a word. What is 'NC'??

That means "No Chord," you don't play anything there.

Rather than stop playing altogether for a "NC," it is often just as appropriate (sometimes moreso) to switch off the note-making part of your guitar playing while creatively using the percussive part of your playing to accentuate what's going on in the song. that could mean beating on the body, scratching the strings, chukah-chukah strumming (strumming while muting all strings), or a variety of other percussion-only techniques...
