Okay, I know this could be more suited for the Vocals forum, but traffic isn't as thick in there and I'd like comments. So anyway... A couple weekends ago I helped the youth of the church in recording a CD for a fundraiser project. My friend Matt and I did two songs for it by ourselves (Me on acoustic/vocals, Matt on electric), 4 or 5 group P&W songs (I switched to bass for those), and some youth did solos as well. So here's one of Matt and my contributions to the disc. This is "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe:

http://members.home.net/brentstunes/Brent & Matt - I Can Only Imagine.mp3

There's actually a chord I played wrong in there (and it's quite obvious), but that was the 3rd time doing that song that day and I'd been singing all morning because we were last to record our solo stuff...so we were not doing it again. Anywhoo, constructive comments and criticism are appreciated. The song is much more powerful live than when it's recorded, but you get the idea... :D

Brent

P.S. The file is a 3.1 MB mp3 and if you have a dial-up connection you may have some trouble downloading it.

It's cool, man. Too bad the recording is a bit muddled. :( But it's really good.

*Last Bump* I'll move this to Vocals in the morning if it's still here...but I doubt it will be.

Brent

P.S. Yes, I deleted all the arguing posts in this thread... Consider that your introduction to my new philosophy...if it's not related to the thread it gets moved...if it's arguing/rudeness/namecalling/etc it just gets deleted.

Thats a great song, Ive actually never heard it before now. =) Ive picked out most of it by ear from your playing, but if you have a tab to the song it'd be great!

Thanks a ton!

So... wanna sing any more songs for us?? :) Ha...not right now. I still barely have a voice from being sick. It's coming along, though.

The only posts I deleted were the ones that were arguing and being rude about where this thread was originally posted. It was originally in GP because the traffic is so low in Vocals...my intentions were to move it after 24 hours, but since I did not say so I got yelled at for it and others started to argue and call names...so I deleted them. Why should I defend myself to you anyway? I hope you're never a doctor because I'd bet you have a horrible bedside manner.

Funny again! I believe your post fits in the "arguing/rudeness/namecalling/ etc..." category.

However, I stand corrected on my original post.

hey Brent,
I couldn't really listen to the song...it kept fading in and out. (My connection is stupid). But anyway, what I heard sounded awesome!!! :)

God's best,
Melissa

Thanks Melissa! The song probably won't be up on my webspace much longer because our ISP is about to switch from Comcast@Home to Comcast.net and I will lose that webspace temporarily until Comcast initiates the new space. I'll be incrementally taking things off that webspace and backing it up on the computer.

and be putting up more? :D

Great song, Brent. You're voice has alot of potential. I would recomend recording with a metronome if you don't want any purcussion. The timing wayvered a tad here and there. And that electric needs to come up a bit. Other than that., keep at it.

Linds: lol...no, not putting up more for now. I meant taking everything off of that space for good because I'll lose it after Feb. 28th. Once I get my new webspace from Comcast.net arranged I'll put some stuff up there, but I don't know what yet.

mesabooger: Thanks. Yeah, I notice the tempo goes up and down a bit in the song...I tend to do that in slower songs like that, but not in the faster ones for obvious reasons. Our band had our first show for people we didn't know (read: outside the church...) last night and drummers make a world of difference in rhythm. I play bass in the band thing and we have rhythm & lead guitars. The guy who sings and plays rhythm, unfortunately, doesn't HAVE much rhythm. He's one of those who kind of whacks at the strings on slower songs and doesn't keep his hand moving to a rhythm, so it's kind of annoying....but when the drummer arrives it forces him to play right, so it's all good then. Anywhoo, the electric is waaay too quiet, but I'm not the one who was mixing the recording... We weren't over the whole process so we never really got to hear that recording until it was said and done b/c we were last to record and everyone was ready to leave. Believe it or not, I actually brought the electric UP a bit by playing with the EQ of the track, so it's better than it was at first.

Yeah, I was saying cause I'm a player who needs to move his hands or think the beats to keep time. I also tend do that in slow songs if I'm not using a metronome. It's human nature I guess. I'll admit it, timing is my weakness. But, like you said, drums make a world of a difference.
