If you guys check the "Upcoming Releases" link on the homepage of CGR, you can get some info on the new CD. I think it comes out March 5th. Yeah...I check that stuff a lot...hope that helps!!

The official JOC website has been overhauled and the new design went up today! It's really sweet. They have some nifty flash features now and some Quicktime clips of the DVD that's coming out around the same time as "11th Hour". Not a whole lot of news about the new album yet on there, but they do have an email list signup that will make you eligable to win some promotional material for it (i.e. t-shirts and stuff). So check it out!

In case you didn't know, Jars of Clay will be having a pay-per view concert on March 3 to promote/highlight the new album coming out. It should be great. :D check out their website for more details.

Hey 1soter, cool pic;)

Also in case no one knows, if you pre-order the new CD from Family Christian Stores you get it for $9.91 after a rebate and you get a free CD-ROM of the making of the album...

Actually...I'm almost positive it's a free DVD that you receive and not a CD-Rom. Especially since the JoC website speaks of the DVD a bit.

Ummm actually I'm POSITIVE that it's a free CD ROM because I have it sitting right here hehehehe

Good stuff too I might add, I just watched it the other day, the behind the scenes stuff is hilarious and the music sounds great too...

Well if you say so... I'm positive that our Family Christian is giving away a DVD with it and not a CD-Rom...go figure. DVD's and CD's *do* look the same..... You probably know that, but some people might not...

Oh, and about the PPV thing... Here's what MBUZZ says:

Pssst... we'll let you in on a little secret. Jars of Clay is premiering it's VERY FIRST pay-per-view concert on March 3, 2002, 8:00 p.m. E.S.T. And here's the kicker...encore performances of "Jars of Clay - The Eleventh Hour Concert" will be available for viewing--and lovin'--for at least 30-days on pay-per-view services.

Now... how do you order a pay-per-view event in the United States or Canada? Well, first you gotta have an addressable cable box or a satellite dish. After that, check with your local cable or satellite provider. They'll have a listing of upcoming pay-per-view events.

That CD is and always will be one of the best Christian discs out there that belongs in EVERY Christian CD collection. I haven't cared for their albums terribly much since that one. That was one where I loved almost every song...every album since then has had maybe 3 songs I enjoyed thoroughly on them. "Much Afraid" was most disappointing in my opinion. I listened to the clips of this album at musicforce.com and I didn't hear anything that particularly stood out to me (aside from the current single), but that doesn't mean I won't like more songs than that, it'll just take a little more listening to like them.

I feel so bad for JOC sometimes. They have what is known by some as "great first-cd- syndrome." Basically what that means is that there were alot of fair-weather fans that liked the first cd, and when the ones after it came out, and they didn't quite measure up, these fans dissed them. FACE IT.....that cd is impossible to duplicate. Quit trying to make them do it. All the cd's after the self-titled were very very good, in their own right.

They keep putting out awesome cd after awesome cd, and people keep saying the same things....."won't ever be as good as the first one."

Your Family Christian Store must be different than mine then, I know 100% for a fact it is a CD ROM, because I don't even own a DVD player hehehe I popped it in my comp and watched it, so if it is a DVD then someone snuck in my house and installed a DVD Drive on my computer while I was asleep! hehehe:)

And just for the record, I completely disgree with those people who think Jars suffer from first-album syndrome or whatever. I think they've gotten better, come to think of it the first CD is probably my least favorite of them...

I still think their first album was the best, but after thinking about it I think it would be more proper to call it the "Sonicflood Syndrome".... Heh... They put out a debut album that was just so awesome that there's no way they could ever do the same thing again, so they just changed with each album.

I think their first was the best.

And frankly, the subsequent Sonicflood CD(s) have led me not to listen to them...hmmmmmmmm...:D

I agree that they have gotten better too.

I was talking about the fairweather fans.

Read the last thing I said in my previous post.

I also agree about SonicFlood.

Actually, I have the whole Eleventh Hour cd on mp3 and I have mixed feelings about it after listening for a few weeks.

I think JOC has become much better musically over the years and this album continues to show their progress. The songs are all very studio slick and impressive - just like U2's albums. However, it is a little too much like U2's last album, which an album they said they had been listening to extensively when recording the album (per Crazy Times newsletter). The influence is very obvious on some songs, and just like U2's last album - the songs are very good musically and their are a few strong pop hits, but overall the songs are not very catchy or ground-breaking. (just my 2 cents, you may like U2's last album, but I was disappointed)

"Whatever She Wants" is a great song that is much 'heavier' than most JOC songs. It's as catchy as the album gets and has a great slide solo. "The Eleventh Hour" has sort of a U2 feel to it and is pretty catchy. Even better - it a pretty sure it uses EABEBE; however, like the last album the acoustic is unfortunately often buried in the mix. "Revolution" is a catchy song that sounds like it belongs on their last album. "Disappear" is another with U2 feel (just listen to the intro). It sounds like it uses EABEBE too, but you can't really hear the acoustic at all. "These Ordinary Days" is an all acoustic (possibly EABEBE) song that sounds a little like "This Road" but not as catchy. "Something Beautiful" has a great harmony part intro and is a good song musically, but not overly catchy. "Silence" is a haunting song with minimal guitar centered around a questioning chorus. "Fly", "Scarlet", and "The Edge of the Water" were a little disappointing and not very catchy. And of course, "I Need You" is good but you've all heard it already.

I am not trying to be down on the album - it is a great JOC album and much better than If I Left the Zoo. It think I was hoping for another "Flood" or "Liquid" and more EABEBE acoustic lead songs. Maybe I got excited when the Crazy Times said they were using EABEBE on the new album.

:) btw, I think the Sonic Flood thing had more to do with losing almost all the original band members and the fact that the first album had a lot of great studio musicians (Otto Price, etc). Otto can make any album great - just listen to the new Acquire the Fire album.

Wow I get to be outnumbered on all counts tonight! First it was because I think Jars have improved, now it will be about Sonicflood. I'm sure I'm in the huge minority here but I didn't even like their first album. I bought it because of "I Want To Know You", I really love the sound and vibe. When I got it home I was so disappointed, the whole thing has this youth camp vibe to it. The spoken word parts get old after the first listen, and some of the songs are just flat out terrible. As far as I'm concerned the second album (which I haven't heard yet) has to be better hehehe

people keep comparing it to the first one but I reckon after hearing it, it's more a progression from 'zoo' - without the fun. But it's interesting the comments on here - I actually thought Much Afraid was their best album - just a lot more real and unprocessed (both lyrically and musically). But that's just my humble un-fanatical opinion.

I don't think attempting to copy the first album is appropriate, but go back to using that style more in the music. EABEBe tuning is something they should do much more often than they have been. It's good to hear that they've used it a tiny bit in the new album.

I absolutely love Jars of Clay, but yall already knew that. Thing is, I do believe the first two are the best. But I love Zoo, White Elephant, and Stringtown.

Lyrically I think the second one is the best.

I cant decide on which album was the best one from JoC. I actually think that each one has its own strong points musically, and in lyrics. I do think that the EABEBe songs are a little more appealing to me. I hope some day they will put all the songs that aren't on the main CD's (like Much Afraid, Zoo, etc.) and some live stuff that is only heard in concert on an album.:D

I love Jars of Clay. And I think that all of their cds are awesome. I don't really think I like any one better than the other. I think they are all just different, which is something I love when bands do. Dynamics! If a band can put out a great cd like "Jars of Clay," and then put out another great cd like, "Much Afraid," and then put out "If I Left The Zoo." I love it. I think the problem is that people were expecting Much Afraid to sound like the self-titled and didn't really give it too much of a listen because they were trying to fit it into a "Jars of Clay" mold.

I think the sign of a great band is that they can make each album sound totally different and make it work. Jars could have decided that the sound of the first CD was what they did best and made every CD sound like that. Instead they wanted to try new things and new directions, so each CD sounds totally different. Of course when you experiment not everything you try will work, but we can be thankful that Jars hasn't had any duds yet, three completely different CDs and each one of them has way more positive characteristics than negative. Not a lot of bands can say that ya know...

That new CD comes out so soon too! It's only about a week and a half away! March 5th will be a good day... I look forward to it. Also, March 3rd is going to be awesome and may be a step forward in Christian music, with the pay-per-view album and all. I hope people can come to Christ through it. I think you can listen to a couple of their new songs on grassrootsmusic.com also. Anyways, talk to you later...
