Get a copy of Electronic Projects for Musicians, then go to www.paia.com and find the project kits there. Not the cheapest way to do it, but easier than trying to find parts and etch your own circuit boards (trust me!).

COOL! I'm DEFFINATLY going to have to try that, cause my dad's an ET(not the alien :D) and he works with circut boards and all that good stuff.-Adam

Hey Lee,
I checked out that site it seemed pretty cool.Really the only reason I want to build my own effect is because I thought it would be cheaper. But I'm a musician not an electrician so I have no idea what I'd be doing.I'll probably get that book and see if its something I feel like I could do.

The hardest thing about building your own effects is making the boards. They have to be etched by using acid to take away everything that isn't part of the circuit. I've done a few, and it is pretty tedious work getting things lined up right and making sure the acid dosn't eat through something you want to keep.
That book is very good, as it has lots of introduction material. It takes you step-by-step through the progects. I would recomend getting the parts and circiut boards from PAiA, just because they have everything. I did look at Radio Shack, and they had most of the stuff, but there are some parts I havn't seen elsewhere. The great thing about PAiA is they have a very good coustomer support system. If you build it and it dosn't work, they will help you.

I've been in the electronics biz for 22 years. Building your own FX can be fun, but mistakes can be costly. In the long haul, you do better to buy them used -
