Hmmmm... I think the line between being tolorant and respectful and accepting beliefs should be drawn before participating in a false religion's customs.

I agree with Travis...it is absolutely absurd to give honor to Islam or any other false religion.

At church last night they mentioned Ramadan, and that a large group of Christians were going to pray for Muslims during Ramadan. I think this is a good idea.

(I hope I don't have to point out that the point of the prayers was for the individuals and their salvation, etc, not for a successful Ramadan.)

While we're talking Ramadan, a former missionary to a largely Muslim country said that for many people there the festival had become like the Western Christmas. That is, an excuse to party with little if any religious content. They are supposed to fast during the day, and some take it very seriously (the fanatical won't even swallow their own saliva 'cause they think it would be 'drinking'), but others just binge all night. It can be a very difficult time for the women because they end up spending twenty hours a day cooking for the nightly binge.

I don't think that participating in fasting during the month of Ramadan means you are accepting the Muslim faith.

If you haven't read the article, please do so before you start criticizing this guys view.

Yeah. Guys, if you're going to criticize this article, read it first. It is obvious that most of you haven't read too much of it. Here's a few quotes:

"I should make it clear that I don't see this as "joining" Muslims in their observance. I don't do well at participating in spiritual practices with people with whom I disagree on religious matters. "

"But still, I am motivated in this largely by the example of Muslims I know. I have been pretty lax when it comes to the more rigorous practices of my own Christian tradition. So, as the practitioners of Islam begin a time of self-denial and self-discipline, I have decided that it is time for me to engage in a similar exercise as a disciple of Jesus Christ."

"My theology tells me that they are created in the image of the God of the Bible. To desecrate that image is to insult the God whom I worship. During my time of fasting and prayer, I will be praying for the physical and spiritual well-being of my Muslim neighbors."

He is fasting and praying FOR the Muslims!! Not fasting and praying WITH the Muslims!! Read the whole article. I think it's a great thing to do.
