I'm curious what everyone thinks of ApologetiX. And I'd like to hear what people think who've been to any of their concerts, preferrably recently, but whenever's fine.
And just a note, please no "how dare they ruin really good songs!" attitude here, I get that enough from my best friend

Some reason they're my top favorite band. Maybe because I love the large amount of scripture they use and how much they talk about the bible and that their focus is completely on getting people to Christ. I also think they're extremely talented.
umm... as for that attitude, i have that on a few songs, but lazy brain is hilarious, and since i listen to no secular at all anymore they redid a lot of songs that i would have otherwise really missed, like crazy train, and fat lip, and freebird, renegade, etc... all really good songs, can't say i liked the lyrics they did much, but i get to listen to the music which is why i liked the songs in the first place though, i do have to say, they could have done a better job with corinthians, and they should have left a few reallly really bad songs alone... i would not go anywhere near stacy's mom or who's your daddy...

I loved the parody of Stacy's Mom! I'd say it was my 2nd favorite song on the new album (Welcome to the Judges came first for me). The message just really had an appeal to me.
Back Intact didn't quite touch me that much, although I think it sounded great.
I've never made it a habit to listen to secular music, so I really don't care how they compare to the originals. On Spoofernatural, they parodied Livin' on a Prayer, and J couldn't quite touch Bon Jovi's range (both my mom and my best friend said that he did not sound good), but I liked the song anyways.
On the other hand, there are songs that I thought were better musically than the originals. The parody of Crazy Train was one of them. I've never heard Ozzy's singing before I heard Lazy Brain, but I wanted to see how they compared, and Ozzy's voice just annoyed me so much! My ears just couldn't digest it for some reason. Also, Karl's guitar sounded much much more alive than Randy Rhoad's did for some reason (maybe because Karl's become such a good player and producer).
One of the things that I like is when they do a parody of a song that I've never heard the original or even know who the original artist is. Some reason that just makes the song sound like theirs. Like "Wherever You Will Sow," a parody of "Wherever You Will Go" by the Calling. Never heard the song. Never even heard of the artist. I loved it! I showed the song to my dad (he had never even heard of the original artist either), and he loved it! It was practically a praise song in a sense!
Here's an interesting question that's up for discussion. I know what I think, but I always like hearing other people's thoughts. Do you think it's possible to be tempted into secular music by listening to ApologetiX?

I love ApologetiX! But I have to agree a little with AXguitar, that there are some songs they shouldn't have redone... basicly all the country ones, I don't like country! But I thought they did an awesome job on a lot of the songs! I love both Queen's version of Bohemian Rhapsody and ApologetiX!!!

I heard the Apologetix soundclips at CBD online and unfortunately I've only heard the complete version of Santa CLaus (which rocks) and the voice of Sodom
I loved the parody of Stacy's Mom!
It's Hilarious! I'd say it was my 2nd favorite song on the new album (Welcome to the Judges came first for me). Yeah pretty good.
Back Intact didn't quite touch me that much, although I think it sounded great. Back Intact is the best!

From the couple of tracks I've heard (The real sin savior, and Bethlehem Rhapsody) I quite like them. They certainly have talent.

It's funny, I didn't think I'd find many people who liked Back Intact. My dad didn't really like it cuz he just couldn't disassociate J's crazy vocals from AC/DC, my best friend found it utterly offensive that J couldn't get the vocals exactly the way whats-his-face did, and another of my friends didn't think they were quite as good as on "You Booked Me All Along." I dunno, I liked em better. Whats-his-face sounded half rocker half opera singer to me.

As far as what I think about the group that does Christianese satire of well-known mainstream pop songs, I think they're........well, let's just say they're not the kind of music I enjoy listening to. I kinda like Weird Al style satire, though.

Wait. There style is unique? How can there style be unique when it's the same song with different lyrics? And, also a note... Weird Al has done the same thing! There is NOTHING unique about it.

How many other bands are there out there taking secular songs and putting Christian lyrics to them?

The idea of giving a secular song Christian lyrics may be new, but the idea of giving a popular song new lyrics is hardly new, innovative or unique. So they're unique only in that no one else is doing EXACTLY what they're doing. But that really don't mean much. If I decided I was going to be unique by writing dirty parodies of Christian songs, I'm sure I would be the only person doing that. That wouldn't make me creative or innovative.

I have the live DVD and it is definitely worth getting. What I like about them is that John sounds a lot like the original artists and Karl's guitar parts are spot on. I appreciate how closely they come to the original, but with different words. I grew up with many of the older songs and love singing the new words instead of the old secular words. To me, it takes a lot of talent to get a reasonable copy of the originals. That's what makes Wierd Al's parodies so funny and good. ApologetiX does it with Christians in mind - thank you. Honestly, they have a lot of talent and I like them. Hey, they even do rap quite well (BTW, I don't like rap). I also like their ministry and how they present it. Just reading about them and how genuine they appear in their faith is an encouragement to me. I emailed Karl and he was very responsive and kind. I'd like to be able to play like him and cover all the styles they do.
