Why did Jesus Come as a Jew?


A friend of mine asked me that. It was a good question but tough, it made me search the word. I found a few verses but not enough

so any more from the OT and NT would be appreaciated

The Jews were the chosen people of God. God made no attempt to influence other races except in relation to them.

The way the old testement reads, it appears that Jehovia is supposed to be "their God". There are quite a few passages that imply to me that the Jews did not believe that Jehovia was the only "real" God, just the only one they were allowed to worship.

Notice details like "you will put no other gods before me" (as opposed to, "there are no other Gods") and that the Egyptian Magi (confronting Moses) did have magical powers, the moral is that Jehova's were stronger.

Jesus came as a jew because the jews were created for his coming.
the jews were needed to write the old testiment, to write down the prophesies of the messiah etc etc.
The jews also served as a sort of incubator for Jesus's teachings. the ideas were nto to fogeign to the jews as the law had been a shodow of the gospel. Many jews were converted and they formed the fondation of many of the early churches.
also if jesus was just randomly born it woudl nto have been such a great event. i mean God prepared teh way so that Jesus would have the greatest impact and that it would be evident that this was not just some magician. but that it was the GOd in the flesh come to earth to accomplish a plan to save teh world. a plan that was in existence since before men where.
i can;t really suport this with scriptures right now i can barely stay awake right now actually. but this is what i have heard and it makes sense to me

Would it be accurate to say that the powers displayed from "other gods" came from Satan/demons?

It gets really annoying when people say "well since Jesus was a jew, shouldnt we be Jews too?"

Basically, if you wanted to get technical. Jesus was a "I'mNowChangingHistoryandNooneElseCanBeMyReligionAsMeUnlessTheyAreGodToo.".

He was "in between" if you will... Judism and christianity. I mean, he FILLED THE GAP.

Just becuase God is the only true and real god, doesn't mean man can create things that they consider god's, like the golden calf, or Baal. There are several instances where man has created something and considered it a god, Greeks, Romans, Druids, Norsemen. All of these people created their own gods, but that doesn't mean that they were real or had a life of some sort, they were created in their minds.

Jerry, i believe that your qualms may be somewhat answered in Romans 9 and 4. Those are two good places in which i feel that Paul shows how Jesus is consistent with the OT.

Several reasons that Jesus was a Jew. David was a Jew. It is held by OT prophecy that the Messiah will come from the line of David. Thus, Jesus had to have been a jew. That is one reason off the top of my head. I am sure there are more (and I know there are more along this same line of reasoning).

God said to the Jews (through His prophets), "I will be your God and you shall be My people." (Lev. 26:12, Jer. 11:4, Jer. 30:22)

Jesus came through a line that was straight from Adam, to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David... etc. hence the long geneology in Matthew and Luke. it was through the Jews that God gave perfect Law to show man, who was fallen, the way. but since man was fallen, he could not follow a perfect law (heck, today man cant follow an imperfect law!). Therefore, God sent His Son through this line in order that the Law might be fulfilled, and therefore prove His sovereignty to the world (not that He needed to prove it... but Yahweh is a very personal God... He wants people to see Him and He shows Himself and His character in many different ways).

the first "Christians" were actually just believing Jews. it was later that things started changing. a lot had to do with Paul. i'm sure that it saddens God that the Jews are no longer a part of the whole picture since they dont believe anymore (well, majority dont... Messianic Jews rock tho).

Jesus kept the Law, Peter kept the Law, and Paul kept the Law. the Law is not bad. but it was given to Jews and therefore Gentiles need not follow it.

But God wants everyone, not just the Jews, to be His people. and that's why He revealed it through Hosea and later through Paul that we were to come to Him as well.

Hosea 2:23 "I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people, "You are My people!' And they will say, "You are my God!'"

and when the full # of gentiles come in, the Jews will all come back to God. He had to harden their hearts because of their disbelief. but He WILL bring them in.

Romans 11:25-27 Lest you be wise in your own conceits, I want you to understand this mystery, brethren: a hardening has come upon part of Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles come in, and so all Israel will be saved; as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob; and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins."

technically, judaism should have lead on to christianity, it's what they'd been waiting for all that time.

yeah but God knew that wouldnt happen. that's why it's the gentiles' duty to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth so that the full number of Jews may come in.
