Does anyone know if Rogue basses are any good? I'm gonna get one @ musiciansfriend.com for $100.

That would be a decent bass to *start* with....once you learn a bit I think you'll get tired of it quickly, though. Check out www.harmony-central.com for reviews of them by people who own them...just click on User Reviews and List By Manufacturer and find Rogue on there somewhere. Might want to check out the alt.guitar.bass newsgroup as well for some info. They'll tell you to start out with an Ibanez or Yamaha, though....for the money, they're your best bets. I started on and still use an Ibanez GSR200 and got it for $199 from Musician's Friend....great beginners bass.

I've never heard of them. Maybe that should tell you something. (But then again, maybe I live in a cave!) At $100, I would say it is not going to be the highest quality. However, a cheap bass to play is better than none!

Rogues are very low quality, doesn't matter what instrument, amp or whatever you're talking about. I don't know about the basses, but if I'm not mistaken, the guitars are essentially Squier rejects. I had a student who picked one up from MF and it was quite literally the worst guitar I'd ever held. Fit, finish, playability, you name it...couldn't stand it. He ended up trashing it a couple months after he got it as he was so disgusted with it.
A bass friend of mine picked up one of the cheapie little 10-15 watt bass amps to practice on and it did well for a couple weeks. He accidentally tipped it over (keep in mind, it's only like 10" tall) and now he no longer has a practice amp. Pretty cruddy quality.
I'd say you'd be better off to save a few more coins and pick up something of better quality. Just my opinion though.
