Where did you get the music for it? I don't think Tait has released a songbook for their CD, or did you figure out the notes yourself?

I voted for Unglued too BTW. :)

I figured it out myself. It's basically all simple arpeggios that follow one of two chord progressions...... the first one is Gm - Fsus... the second one is Eb - Gm7(or Bb) - Fsus

The first progression is used for the verse parts.... the second progression kicks in when you hit "I don't want to believe..."

Hope this really short description helps! :D

Can you edit this and make it a multiple-choice thread?
I like "remember me," also "welcome to our world" is one of the most awesome songs ever written! It's also one of my favorites to play!

Actually... I can't. That seems to be the one thing you CAN'T change after you make the poll. Oh well.... pick one and one only I guess.

My fav Piano driven songs -

I Can't Quit Her - Blood Sweat & Tears

Saturday in the park - Chicago

I swear, keyboards have taken a back seat in the past 20 years. We need to fight back against the electric guitarists!

MrCrabby

Seriously!

In my opinion, guitarists aren't musicians.

But, that's just my opinion, i posted that once in the drums section and made alot of people angry!

you better be glad i haven't exceeded my seven times seventy limit yet... :D jk... anyway, i voted for We Fall Down, just because it also has an awesome sax solo (woo hoo) but i think my favorite song from that group, would definitely have to be I Can Only Imagine, that song has affected me and my youth group in so many awesome ways... er.. actually God has used that song to affect us... ;) thats it...

I voted for "Thief." Great song! Question, though: I only have this song on the "Offerings"album (it's a live recording) and I want to know if it's worth getting the CD that it's originally recorded on. Is the piano part any different in the studio version? I can do the piano for the live one but ... should I get the studio version? Thanks for your opinions!

Well, I probably should go listen to both versions before I say this..... but I think I remember then good enough. I'm pretty sure the piano parts are almost exactly (if not completely) the same. So really, unless you want to hear it as Third Day first did it.... there's no need to buy the original CD. (Unless, of course you just want to hear more great music by Third Day... :D)

brandontmilan
01-23-2002, 08:11 PM
actually, the original recording has no intro, yet the offerings version has a couple of intro measures, otherwise, they are pretty much the same... :D

there are just too many good songs up there. I voted for "I Can Only Imagine", but I love "Been Through The Water". Anyone know where I can find chords/music for that?? I've been looking forever.

Lol.

But i'm serious, unless you've taken some kind of theory class or something like, guitar teaches you absolutely nothing about the art of music.
Sure you can make stuff that sounds like music........but you'll never have the knowledge or understanding of music that a pianist does.

And yes, i am a guitarist.:)

Angels Fall Down by Skillet is another cool piano driven song.

I never was able to learn to play Unglued; the arpeggios work for the verses in a way(although I still don't think I'm playing them right), but the instrumental part near the end is a bit confusing. You wouldn't happen to have a NWC file of the song would ya? If you do... could you email(theflyingfish24@hotmail.com) it to me(heh sorry... it seems like I'm always being lazy and just asking for the sheet music for songs :o )?

Welcome to Our World is an incredible song.

But, I wonder - why are there no Nicole Nordeman songs? She is INCREDIBLE! It's not a good poll unless you include a song from her. That would be like asking who the best president of all time is, but not include Ronald Reagan as a possible answer!

You should have I Believe In You Now by Michael W. Smith on there - it's on his Live the Life album, that's the best rock piano song I've ever heard in Christian music.

My favorite piano driven song has got to be "Great Are You" by Downhere. They have a few other piano-driven songs on their album that are just awesome as well. Check this band out!

man, you've got to include some Rich Mullins in there....the guy had some incredible songs and on many occasions played with such fervor that his hands would be bleeding by the end of the song.
Recommended songs by him

If I Stand
Elijah (original version)
My Deliverer
To Tell Them
Peace (my song of choice) - this song is The Reason why I fell in love with the piano

anyway, those are a few highly worth considering

Nate

My favourite piano driven song that is within the CCM realm is probably 'Everything heart and soul' by Geoff Moore & the Distance.

Outside of CCM, some piano driven tunes I like include 'Walking in Memphis', or stuff by Billy Joel like 'The ballad of Billy the Kid', 'Miami 2017', 'Big Man on Mulberry Street', etc.

But i'm serious, unless you've taken some kind of theory class or something like, guitar teaches you absolutely nothing about the art of music.

It would be equally true to say that unless you've taken some kind of theory class or something like, piano teaches you absolutely nothing about the art of music.

But neither statement is true - it is more than possible to pick up theoretical knowledge without taking a class or ever having any kind of lessons, and the whole point about 'art' is that it is way more than just theory. Theory without practical expression isn't art. But my main point is there is no magical property built in to pianos that somehow transfer more musical knowledge to a music student than any other instrument you name.

Sure you can make stuff that sounds like music........but you'll never have the knowledge or understanding of music that a pianist does.

'Sounds like music'? If it sounds like music it is music.

Where did you get the idea that pianists have an understanding of music? Some do, but it is far from automatic. I know some piano players that are good enough technically to play almost any classical piece you throw at them, and play it 'with feeling', but they have virtually no music theory knowledge at all. For example I know a young woman that can play pretty much every published Beethoven work, yet she doesn't know what notes make up a minor ninth chord.

You don't need an understanding of how music works to be able to play it well. And you don't need an understanding of how music works to be able to write it well...it helps, but it isn't necessary.

But again, pianists in fact don't have a better knowledge or understanding of music than those who play other instruments. They just think they do.

And yes, I am a pianist.

Anyone say "The Dance" by Garth brooks yet?

Or how about that grungish rock song from the 80s that had the chorus: "YOOOOU GOOTTT IT ALLL BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" where the guy plays a piano solo at the end, and then the piano blows up?
