i know lots and lots of people hate these guys but i like even though i would be considered a "poser" for it. i like em anyway they have a cool pop punk sound

the video for Stay Together For The Kids is awsome
and mr. drummer has a kinda mohawk

I really like their sound...wish their lyrics were better. But I don't think they're that much of a poser group...

I went to 2 of their shows. Then they got too corporate and stuff, they stopped acting like how they wanted to act and conformed to publicists and stuff. Dude Ranch is a kickin' album.

i really like them. even, though there last live cd was a little, raunchy, i still like them. there jokes are pretty funny, they'd be better if they were clean :D but i do really like their music, all of it :D

And yes the mr. drummer, "Travis".... is really good :D

Scott

nah, they're not a poser band, but I just don't like 'em much.

Enema of the State ( I think that's it) was an ok cd....but I didn't like the live cd and "The Rock Show" is a terrible song for a band that could sound so much better....I've heard Buddha, which I think is a little better....but they're still not my fav.

Travis has mad skills... he used to be in The Aquabats (an extremely funny band who's songs include "The Cat with Two Heads" and "The Magic Chicken") He is waaaay better than they're old drummer... if you listen to the drums on the "Dude Ranch" album, there is such a difference... the old drummer was pretty lame.

I used to really love Blink 182...but I decided to stop, because of what their songs are all about...and I'm so happy I didn't buy the new CD...those are some obscene songs

But anyway, I like their in-your-face rock style....my favorites used to be adam's song, aliens exist, whats my age, etc.

XxBaTmaNxX

did anyone see them at the MTV europe award show? I laughed so much. They could hardly play their instruments cos they were so drunk, and they just had random people running around behind them, then they went crazy and smashed the set up. The MTV presenters looked all worried and the camera switched off of them so quickly.

And they were in there BeeGee's type costumes, which added an extra dimension of humour.

the bits between some of the tracks on dude ranch are hilarious, but there is no way it's one of the best albums ever. although, it's all subjective, but if you think it is, you need to listen to some more stuff.

"crappiest poser band"... second that. even crappier and even more poserish than than the crappiest poser band sum 41. they both used to be good, but not even great. if mtv wanted a "punk" band, they could have done better. lots of kids might have spikey hair now and go to shows with their dads, but its not punk.

well, it could be considered punk to rebel against traditional punk rebellion and actually be popular.
lol. that made me laugh :) but really, bands like sum 41 and blink 182 really make me mad  . they should change their names to sum 182 or something, get together, and make some tracks with nelly and christina aguilera. seriously though punk is dying and that's sad :( i used to sit around and tell my friends that i wished punk and ska could be popular. now it's starting to get popular but it's not the punk that i know. but at any rate i won't be lying down letting the corporate harlots step over me. i'll still pass out cd's on the school bus and make them play my music on the morning show in the morning. (that's always fun:) ) but i'll do a lot of things before i conform to whatever sell out crap that music is.

timberwolf_s
12-16-2001, 12:50 PM
i just posted this on another thread, i'm gonna paste it in here. remember this is just my opinion, my definition of an undefinable term :)

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't see why people have such a hard time of defining punk... PUNK IS 4 chorded songs, played by guys in tight pants, converse shoes, tight thirft store shirts, and discolored wild hair. If punk was standing up for what you believe in...then everyone would be a punk almost. I read on another online message board that someone said that converse weren't punk anymore cause all the punks wear them and it's not cool to have a trend... if that was the case then I guess the correct punk thing to do is to make your own clothes and shoes....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

imo, there are two parts of "punk". punk is music. (4 chorded songs, a few riffs, supersonic speed drums, and some trumpets if they're really cool ) musically, blink 182 and sum 41 are punk (pop punk anyway), no matter what somebody says. but the other part of punk is playing your music real. either play the music to express yourself, or play it to have a good time. don't play to impress people or to get big or to make money. because then you're no different than the rappers and pop stars, who don't even write their music. when it comes to music, everything you do should just be for yourself. don't think about anyone else. outside of music, just do your thing and don't back down if people don't like it. (granted, that's to a degree) blink and sum 41 are _not_ punk. if you like converse shoes and wild hair, wear it, but only for yourself. don't do it bcause you are "punk." punk is not caring if you are way different than everyone else. but punk is not about trying to be different. punk is about not giving a care about what people label you.

XxBaTmaNxX
12-18-2001, 05:25 PM
nah lots of people are "punk" and dont look the part

timberwolf_s
12-18-2001, 09:43 PM
yeah that was the point i was trying to get at actually :D . think i made it a little too long to follow though. the people who go out and try to look the part *cough cough blink cough cough cough ooh nasty phlegm* are the ones who are posing. cause the punks are the ones who don't care what society labels them. not really a lifestyle, just an attitude. but as soon as you start trying to advertise this so called "punk attitude" you have, it's not real anymore.

It's not what his guitar looks like (it's a strat tho) and Blink 182 is one of the best punk bands out there...they're so original and the music is SO phat...you CAN'T disagree with that now, can you?

Kinda... There are only 2 really orignial punk bands today and they are Green Day and The Offspring. I guess Blink does have a sound though, because their singer's voice is easy to pick out. 99.999% of punk is VERY unoriginal- it all sounds alike.

Blink182 is doing a 9 date club tour and tickets are only $1. Something tells me those are going to be some very very crowded concerts.

Here are the "DollaBill" tour dates:

Nov. 6: Boston (Avalon)
Nov. 7: Philadelphia (TLA)
Nov. 8: Washington, D.C. (9:30 Club)
Nov. 9: New York (Irving Plaza)
Nov. 12: Detroit (St. Andrews)
Nov. 13: Chicago (House of Blues)
Nov. 14: Minneapolis (Quest)
Nov. 17-18: Los Angeles (Avalon)
Nov. 21: San Diego (Soma)

The album's out and it's not half bad. I actually like it a lot. I don't have it, but my friend does, and we've been listening to it for the past couple days. They moved away from the whole pop-punk genre and did something relatively unique. I don't normally like Blink 182 that much, but the new album is hard to ignore. Good stuff.

The new album is definitely good. They've set aside the formula for a big, over-produced rock record for something real. It's softer than they usually are with songs like All of This and I Miss You, but also harder then they usually are with songs like Stockholm Syndrome and Obvious. It's just more versatile. It kind of sounds like Box Car Racer meets Jimmy Eat World. There are also no lines on it like "He took the seat off his own bike because he liked the way it felt." I'm so glad that they decided to ditch the whole prolonged adolescence thing. The only complaint I have is that I wish that Mark sang more on it. I just like his voice more, and I already have the BCR album if I want to hear Tom. I'd say that Tom sings more than half the time on it. All of This is my favorite as well, Robert Smith is awesome on it.

Supposedly it's a hiatus. Like I said in a another thread, what makes me somewhat sad about this is that they were really starting to get pretty good with the last record. If I would have listened to them back in 1995 when they released their first cd I would have never thought that they would make a song like The Fallen Interlude.

Wow, I sense some dislike here lol. Yeah, I saw the article on MTV.com about them and they're calling it a hiatus. As much as I like them I hope they don't, as bob said, go down the path of the hair band saga of farewell and reunion tours and so on.

All the praise from the new album makes me somewhat upset, considering many of their albums have just as strong songs on them.

Supposedly it's a hiatus.

That usually is a way for a band to say they are breaking up without actually saying so. Look at At the Drive In.

All the praise from the new album makes me somewhat upset, considering many of their albums have just as strong songs on them.

I agree, the old albums had good songs on them too but I just really liked the new album the best. Dumpweed off of Enema Of The State has to be one of my favorite songs by them.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. Fugazi did that too.

The new CD was really good, but I absolutly adored Enema of the State. That CD was brilliant, IMHO.

Blink's had one of these "hiatuses" before, though, and came back for more. So I guess we'll see.

I'm not happy 'cause Blink isn't making anymore music, but that it'll hopefully mean that all the bands that copied Blink aren't making anymore music.

None of them are as consistant or as adventerous though.

Yeah, the whole wave of pop-punk following blink and greenday was very troubling.

I could possibly argue the consitantsy of the former albums, but you hit the adventerous part right on the head. I think it's just where I have this oddly huge obsession with their song Carousel.

I find it hard to distinguish between songs on their earlier albums, though I've only heard "Dude Ranch" onwards. There are breaks, like "Adam's Song" and "Stay Together For The Kids", but with the fast stuff, I can't really tell the difference. Not that the songs aren't good.

I'ma listen to Carousel right now.

Threads merged. Next time you want to make a thread, search to see if there is already a similar one.

With that out of the way, do they have a new song?

Oh, fair enough. I saw on their site that Tom has a new band. I bet they will have a reunion tour in like 5 years.

I'm guessing that they'll be back next year. I have to say, Cheshire Cat and Enema of the State were probably two of the best pop-punk records of the whole pop-punk boom in the 90's. Heck, they're probably two of the best pop albums of the 90's.
