What would you say is the best affordable accoustic guitar for a beginner (although I'm not really a beginner). I don't need an expensive guitar. I already have a fender strat, and I just want an accoustic guitar to play around with at home.

By guess would be to get a lower end Takamine. They are great guitars, even more so on the lower end models. I would assume that you would want a guitar that could last you a while, and these guitars will. Also, dont get a "name" guitar, like a martin or taylor. Too much of the cost is paying for the name. They are exquisite instruments, but not fairly priced in our kind of price ranges.

Yes, I would suggest a Takamine. I have a Jasmine (by Takamine) and it only cost $100, yet it is a great guitar!

Are Takamine guitars the ones that have the hole off the center? I don't know much about guitars.

Umm... I don't think mine has a hole off the center. It looks pretty much like a normal guitar.

:cool:You might also want to check out a Yammaha. I
one and it is a nice guitar. I paid about $180 for
it.<Pete>

I got a Fender acoustic for about $200, not a bad "beginner" guitar at all.

I would recommend pretty much what everybody else did, but I'd add Dean guitars, too. I've heard good things about their acoustics. Takamine's and their lower-end Jasmine's are great guitars...never played a bad one personally. Fender makes an acoustic that sells for around $179 with a natural satin finish that plays great IMO. Oh yeah...the guitars you mentioned with the hole off-center is probably either a Tacoma or a McPherson guitar...those are the only two that I know of besides Ovations (which some have 15 small holes, but those are the only Ovation's w/off-center soundholes). Anywhoo, hope I helped.

Thanks for all the replies. I would like to keep the price under $150, or even $100 if you can get a decent guitar at that price.

If you are looking that cheap, I'd take a Washburn. Like Takamine's they sound much better than their price implies. Save on the guitar, but always splurge on the strings.

Is any of the mentioned guitars a cutaway guitar? It would be nice to be able to play on high frets. Or is it too much of a sacrifice of sound? Or are there no cutaway guitars at such a low price? Also, can you plug those guitars into an amp?

:cool:I would say they all have at least one model that is a cutaway, not too sure on that. Yammaha definatly has cutaway models.

I bought my first acoustic guitar 6 months ago. I also wanted the option of plugging in. I really couldn't find any acoustic electrics under $250. I ended up buying a Dean Exotica because it cost around $300 had the pickups and a 4-band eq. and it sounded better than the Takamines in the same price range. Dean makes a good sounding and beautiful guitar. I know it's out of you listed range, but I don't know if you can get an a/e at $150.

you can get a really cheap acoustic at http://www.musicyo.com
b/c they offer factory direct. but for around $150 you
can also get an epiphone. i used to have one, it was
a really solid guitar. check out reviews of guitars
at http://www.harmony-central.com
also some good online retailers:
http://www.elderly.com (got my last 2 guitars from there,
great service and price)
and http://www.musiciansfriend.com is good too.

The best guitar for a beginner at a good price is the Takamine. It's a take off of a Martin, in fact there's hardly a difference. It's just not American made. They usually run around $250 or so. Check out Music123.com I have one from their. They have a great thing going for it.
