View Full Version : New Demon Hunter Album

This is from Demon Hunter's website:
Demon Hunter's third album, "The Triptych," arrives October 25th. Produced by Aaron Sprinkle (Emery) and mixed by Machine (Lamb Of God), the album will be available for a limited time with three different covers, each of them painted by Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel).
"The Triptych" builds upon the band's heavy but melodic blueprint by infusing it with elements of the traditional metal the band grew up on. New songs include "Fire To My Soul" and "Not I."
Track listing:
"The Light That Guides Us Home,"
"Not I,"
"Undying,"
"Relentless Intolerance,"
"Deteriorate,"
"The Soldier's Song,"
"Fire To My Soul,"
"One Thousand Apologies,"
"The Science Of Lies,"
"Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck,"
"Ribcage"
"The Tide Began To Rise."
I CAN'T WAIT! I'll keep checking back on the web site, waiting for the day I can order. And it's just my luck I start a job on Friday (in 4 days), so I know I have enough money. I saw a zip-up hoodie in their merch I want to get with my first paycheck and I'm smiling in wait of people's response when they see it.
If the new album has "traditional style metal" in it, I'm hoping for some real great guitar riffs that aren't very present in lots of Demon Hunter songs.
Everyone makes fun of me for liking them but I sure don't care.
What does everyone think?

Not bad... I guess. I don't know. I really don't care for Demon Hunter's brand of metal. Not that I'm a big metal head in the first place... I can enjoy it from time to time. The breakdown (I guess it's a breakdown) is pretty decent. My ultimate metal song is Dream Theater's "Panic Attack". That's what all metal songs should be like. If you don't believe me, go listen to it.

So this means two albums are coming out on October 25th that will be good to metalheads everywhere; Demon Hunter's new one and Dallas Taylor's own Maylene and the Sons of Disaster's self-titled release. How sweet October will be!

One of the songs is a cover of "Snap your fingers, snap your neck" by a band called "Prong". Anyone heard the original?
I'm thinking if Sanctus Real's "Beautiful Day" and Pillar's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" can both be a buttload better than the original's, than surely Demon Hunter's will be much better.
(Maybe it's just that those were done by U2)

I don't have actually have their first album yet, but I'm probably safe in saying that the new song on PureVolume has the best intro of any song yet.
(Unless their's one better on the new album)

I think the first song on the new cd could be the best intro song so far.Your title intrested me because it says that pop sucks but in your sig you have relient k and sum 41 as your favorite punk bands you know they are pop punk right?
thedemonhunter
09-21-2005, 04:51 PM
In retrospect, Relient K is very "poppish", but they aren't Maroon 5 or N Sync or Jessica Simpson. That's kinda what I meant. They're the lightest thing I listen to on a regular basis. And sum 41 is hardly pop any more (listen to "We're All to Blame" or the rest of Chuck)
Only reply to this once, we should keep the thread on topic.
(If anyone listens to Relient K or Pillar, please check out the tab naming games in their sub-forums. No has responded to my posts and I'm a new user)

I'm hoping for a bit more singing, I love Ryan's screaming voice but the singing is easier to understand. "My Heartstrings Come Undone" was my favorite song when I first got Summer of Darkness.
More people should know about Demon Hunter, I've never heard a vocalist with an awesome singing AND screaming voice.

So far, the music sounds a bit more like traditional metal than what I'm used to hearing from them. That's the biggest difference I could tell.

I kinda like this song.
Personally, I think I just can't get into Demon Hunter because the metal I've listened to in the past has been so technical (Opeth, Necrophagist, Nile), and this is just so basic.
DKelly
09-29-2005, 11:51 PM
I agree. Demon Hunter is a bit simplistic than what I normally listen to(As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Mortal Treason, The Showdown), but I still can't help listening to them because they were one of the first bands that i got into when I got into metal/hardcore/metalcore.

Now that Ive actually had the chance to sit and scrutinize the new music I can see difference from the first cd.The new cd sounds like their going to add singing and screaming together in a newer way then they have before. The guitar and drum styles have changed a little but not a whole lot.True they arent as technical as most bands but I still find their music as simple as it is enjoyable.

No, they aren't as technical. They aren't even as heavy as a lot of bands out there, but they are still pretty enjoyable. I only have Summer of Darkness, but I still listen to it on occasion. I will definitely be getting the new one.

I like that wierd background stuff they put in almost everysong. It gave S.O.D. a darker, and more oldschool feel i think. I liked that alot. Im kinda hoping they put some more of that in the new album.

Well, you've got to understand, it's really hard to retain the ability to scream at all if that's the most of what you're ever doing. To be frank, I was amazed that the man could even keep gonig when they were doing Summer of Darkness. If you'll notice, he can't go quite as high as he did with the s/t album, and is sometimes not as clear. He's still amazing, though.
The things that I liked about the first album were that he could scream quite clearly, sing amazingly, sound passionate about what he was doing, and the fact that the instrumentalists were no slouches made for a pretty decent release - but track 6 (turn your back and run) really annoyed me, as I cannot stand thrash at all, track 8 was just too repetitive, and track 10 just couldn't keep my interest. After a few months with Summer of Darkness, there isn't a single track on that CD that I dislike. That's easily one of the best heavy metal albums ever released. True, I am slightly biased as Demon Hunter is my favorite band of all-time, but you still can't past the quality of the music. The drum tracks were a little weak (you had a hard time hearing the cymbals and occasionaly the snare was too quiet), but overall it's just too awesome for words.
The new album sounds like it'll be much the same as Summer of Darkness - kinda bleak, rather dark, with some of the best vocals, music, and words in the past decade. I'm not waiting for christmas - i'm buying it the day it comes out!

On your comments about the quality of S.O.D., that was the first metal album I ever bought. And i still listen to this music mainly because of that cd. :)
The best parts of that whole cd In my opinion were the drum solo on "Less than nothing" and The Verse/Pre-chorus sections on the title track.

Dan Weyandt would be perfect for a DH guest vocalist. He has a good singing voice on top of his screaming voice.

Not to bring up an old issue, but i was thinking about the earlier discussion of Ryan's changing vocal style. And I thot it would be important to point out that he has been doing this vocal style for more than a decade. And its only in the last few years that his voice has suffered major degredation in his screaming style.

You guys might be jealous if you didn't do this but I just got the CD because I pre-ordered it(night before it comes out). AWESOME! My only complaint is that the first track (The Flame that Guides Us Home) is actually some sort of opera-type singing to just 2 sentences of lyrics. And I wish the last track (The Tide Began to Rise) was heavier, it's pretty slow, but it's still a good song.
What's more there aren't any guest vocalists-I thought they'd do something with Bruce Fitzgugh because that would sound awesome.

There was something on the song I wont ruin it for you guys but I was like "Where did that come from?Thats new." Ill just say its something theyve never done in the past (or used). And the intro is just plain sweet.
HOLY COW!!!!! I just listened to it. It sure surprised me too. I was expecting something else, but when I heard it, my mouth dropped. I was not expecting that at all.

I love it too. But I think my favorites are actually "Infected" and "The Latest And The Last".

I think the rest of the album that's not on PV was pretty good, but I think "Undying" and "Fire to My Soul" are the best songs.
The Prong cover("Snap your fingers, snap your neck") was pretty good, and from what I've heard of the original, everything except the vocals was the same.
(That being different from Pillar's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and Sanctus Real's "Beautiful Day", both made the U2 songs into heavier versions. We already discussed covers on this thread)

Was there anything that you noticed that was different than Summer of Darkness or their self-titled CD?

Yeah, beside that. What I mean is, I've heard so much about how this CD is fusing Demon Hunter's trademark sound with some traditional metal elements. I was wondering if you guys noticed anything like that.

The new cd is awsome.Much better then the last two in my opinion. It has a more energetic feel and they changed the guitars slightly to get a little bit of an older metal feel to them.Theres actually at least on solo that I know about (I havent had time to listen for all the solos yet).I would say in some parts it has that older metal style but mostly they kept their own Demon Hunter style metal with changing the beats and the parts where he sings.

the new album is awsome! i love the clean vocals, and the "soft" songs.
metal bands are always the best at songs without screaming. perhaps moreso than non-metal bands.
EX. the showdown (the part of laid to rest without screaming) the two new demon hunter songs, showbread "Mathias Replaces Judas" (i think i spelled it right)
yeah... it rocks

Thanx, just checked that out. I love that acoustic version of "Tide...". So far, that song (the album version) is my favorite from the cd. That song, and undying have to be simply 2 of the coolest metal/worship style songs out there (yeah, I consider that worship style music). :)
