I have some Fender red medium picks that i need to sell to make some money.
I've grown quite attatched to them though, and i don't think i'll sell cheap.

But seriously, we need to start some FUNNY topics to get these boards movin,

Kelly

I will only buy those picks from you if they are strawberry scented.

:D,
Kelly

I'm not REALLY selling my picks, as i said, i've grown too attatched to them!
I don't like strawberries, do you?

Kelly
02-06-2001, 03:43 PM
Of course, strawberries are YUMMY! I like them plain, with sugar, in cereal, and dipped in chocolate. I could go on and on about strawberries, but then I'll start to sound like Bubba on "Forrest Gump" - - well, you've got your strawberry shortcake, strawberry pie, strawberry turnovers, strawberry tarts - - you get the picture.

You know... soak those picks in strawberry jelly and you could sell them to Kelly. Then, not only would they smell like strawberries, they wouldn't go flying from your hands when you got to playing really hard.

Hey I know that one!! It's "Josh and the Big Wall" right??

Definitely from Josh And The Big Wall, it's when they're sing about "a land that's flowing with milk and honey".
And i like grape jelly, not strawberry.

It's funny how you get attached to the silliest things!! I'm attached to my picks too. They're nothing special, though, just plain old 75 cent picks.

I can get 4 for a dollar at Brents.

I go through picks to fast to get attached... course I use them for bass and only when I need to play fast riffs for a long time (e.g. - punk or ska). They tend to wear out fast... the edges first get really sharp then start to wear away until I have a really strange shaped piece of plastic that resembles a tiny throwing star more than a guitar pick...

:cool:On the serious side for a moment guys, what type of picks do you like? thin, thick, medium? I like thin.

SoulBass
02-07-2001, 09:47 PM
I likes them as think as possible.. but then, that makes sense for me. :)

I mostly use medium picks, and I like using them until they wear down to the shape an equilateral triangle.

MrCrabby

I like medium, i broke too many strings with heavy, and i tore up my fingers with light picks.

I like the mediums as well, but only on my acoustic. They seem a bit too much for the electric strings.

Okay, so you guys DO know I was only kidding about the strawberry picks, right? In keeping with the silly spirit of selling used picks, I thought it would only be appropriate that red picks be strawberry ones. It was a silly moment for me, I must admit. :D

Kelly

I've got some blue picks too, if you like blueberries.

Kelly
02-08-2001, 01:31 PM
Blueberries are our friends!

Have you ever seen that Welch's juice commercial with the little boy that says that? That was the cutest commercial!

Sorry, never seen that one.

Kelly
02-08-2001, 01:44 PM
I'll have to see if I can find it on one of these websites that has commercials on it. It's really cute. Maybe it wasn't a nationally run commercial, I don't know. I'll see if I can find it and then if I can, I'll post it for you. How about that?

Kelly

I like grapes better than blueberries. Come to think of it, why are strawberries called "straw"berries and not "red"berries?

Kelly
02-08-2001, 03:16 PM
That goes along with a whole list of things that don't make sense in the English language. Just like...There are no eggs in eggplants and there is neither pine nor apples in pineapples.

Go figure...:D

I wonder how Adam named all the plants and animals. I can't name anything. I have like zero creativity in that area. If I named animals, dogs would be animal 1, cats are animal 2, and so on. But now I know what to call a blue hedgehog.

Kelly
02-08-2001, 03:33 PM
I'm pretty good with the animal thing, but...yea, we all know what I would have to name a hedgehog if I got one. The hedgehog our friends have is named Lucy - - and she has some 'splainin' to do. (Get it? Lucy and Ricky?)

:cool:Why do we drive on the parkway, and park in the driveway?

Amy
02-08-2001, 06:56 PM
I rarely use regular picks! I always use the thumbpicks. I'm mostly just strumming my acoustic, so that works fine.

stillgrowin'
02-08-2001, 07:25 PM
What are thumpicks? How do people strum without a pick?

GODcrazed
02-08-2001, 07:47 PM
Umm... I don't really know what a thumb pick is, but I do know how to strum without a pick. You put your thumb and index finger together as though your were holding a pick. Then, you hit the strings with your nails. Most people prefer to use the pick, cuz it's a whole lot more comfortable.

Amy
02-08-2001, 07:47 PM
They're like regular picks except for they have a piece on them that goes around your thumb and holds the pick there.
Instead of grasping the pick with your fingers, it just holds onto your thumb.
It gives me one less thing to concentrate on when I'm playing the guitar.

GODcrazed
02-08-2001, 08:00 PM
But do you really have to focus on holding your pick? I've never seen a guitarist drop his pick while playing. I did see a drummer drop his sticks though.

Amy
02-08-2001, 08:31 PM
I don't have to focus that much on the pick, but when I use a thumbpick I can just let my hand go free. Of course, it's not so good when you're trying to pick certain strings. Then I use a regular pick.

SoulBass
02-08-2001, 10:55 PM
You've never seen a guitarist drop his pick!?!?!?! Geeze! I've seen silly guitarists drop picks as long as I've been playing bass! God Bless Piziacatto! Fingers are the way to go! I mean, yeah, bassists use a pick every now and again, but nothing beats the feeling of thick steel strings thrumming beneath your bare fingertips...

Oh, sorry! Got carried away... where was I?? Oh yeah, You've never seena guitarist drop a pick!?

Well I dont do that often, but I just purchased a thumb pick and i LOVE it! Its awesome! You can go from picking to struming FAST wow....control! You guys should try it! It kinda has a folksy style to it! I love em! I also have fingerpicks but those are hard...they are good back scrachers though...my fav regular pic is a red dunlop....<ben>

ShyStrings
02-09-2001, 02:48 AM
I like using the cheapo, ten for a buck Dunlops...

And since i chew on them whenever I'm not playing, they have a natural adhesive already, so no worries about droppage.

Now if we're going to talk pick eccentricities...

I admit it. I'm using a quarter lately. And not just any quarter... I'm hoarding those Connecticut commemorative ones because they're easier to grip. Although I use Massachusetts in a pinch.

The sad thing... I'm not kidding. I can't get that Brian May/Queen sound without it (and England stopped minting sixpences back in the seventies).

Boy, will I go through a lot of strings with this problem!

You know you can get stainless steel picks right?

Ian Lozada
02-22-2001, 04:41 PM
It's not the same. You need the serrated edge (which is why quarters and dimes (too small) are better than nickels (smooth edge).

I've tried putting notches in regular picks, cutting small ridges in metal picks, nothing sounds the same.

You also get a different attack on the strings with the round profile (which is why Stevie Ray Vaughan used to hold his picks sideways.)
