Extremely chaotic music, but I like it. I actually like their new one more than "Bless The Martyr and Kiss The Child".

I have heard a few songs off BTMKTC, namely Memphis Shall Be Laid to Wase and Face, and I like them. My favorite song off the new album is Bayonetwork. The chours is awesome. Also, they have like a 10 minut song on there, and it is really cool.

Hey, thats awesome. It would be sweet to see them live, like with Living Scrifice and Beloved or someone like that...to bad LS and Beloved aren't around anymore. Do you guys think that O God is better thatn Bless The Martyer? And what about back when they were Luti-Kriss? Were they any good back then?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I *LOVE* Norma Jean! I like both their albums, I like BTMKTC more though, Josh Scogin's scream is deeper that Corys and fits the Guitars better.

I haven't heard any of the Luti-Kriss days stuff, but I've read the lyrics, and they are really good, I like have to work to find out the meaning of songs, so I like newer stuff better lyric wise.

For anybody who doesnt now, NJ's old singer/vox person; Josh Scogin; is in The Chariot now, its more experimental, and I like it a little better.

Thanks to all who have postedin this thread for going outside of the CCM scene.

There is a 15 minute song on "Bless The Martyr and Kiss The Child".

Really? Whats it called. Oh, and I also knew that there old singer was with The Chraiot. Are they any good? Do they solo? Solos are the one thing that would make this band better. It is always nice to hear a good solo, Living Sacrifice style. But NJ is still an awesome band!

Norma Jean is a very good band but I think that The Chariot is better. That is my personel opinion. The 15 minute long song is called "Pretty Soon I dont Know What But Something Is Going To Happen" song 5.I would have to agree that there is not a song on either Norma Jean cd that I dont like.

Sweet. As soon as they restock the Family Christian Bookstore I will have to buy it. Sounds like a great CD.

A)the old vocalist was better
B)i dont really think a solo would fit in w/ this type of metal... just my opinion tho.

Well, I dont really have a vocal preference, really. They both sound good. And I think guitar solos fit anywhere, cause they are just so cool. I think having a nice big one would do Norma Jean just fine.

Save about 5 bucks and get it at Best Buy.

As far as the new CD goes, I like it quite a bit but a lot of it is too chaotic for me. I have to be in the right mood for it. Good CD though.

I cant think of anyone that could have filled the vocalist position better for Norma Jean then Corey though. His vocals are pretty darn good and fits the whole Norma Jean style.

Throwing Myself-
I used to really like it, but now it seems just really flat and repetitive, maybe thats just because I haven't listened to it in a while.

Bless the Martyr-
Very sweet album. I really liked the songs Face: Face and Memphis will be Laid to Waste, they are probably why I got into NJ so much.

Oh God-
There is alot more energy in this CD, and it is more professionally done. I like the delux edition too, the DVD is pretty interesting.

I TOTALLY take back what I said about liking Josh Scogin better than Corey Brandan. I got their new CD "Redeemer" and Corey is so awesome. Josh Scogin couldn't have pulled it off.

Maybe he doesn't . . . Muhahahaha lol

When I went to Norma Jean, it was so totally awesome, I was like right in front of Corey the whole time, and the band before them had a great sound. Also they played with 2 drummers. . .

Anyway I didn't have any injuries like that other guy, just broken glasses, a black eye, and a big cut.

But thank goodness that you didnt have any injuries....

Redeemer is cool, I like Josh better. But then again, Corey has done amazing things with this band. Cant wait to see what they do next.

Not in mine.I felt that O' God was superior in all manners.

I thought O God was solid and nothing more. Every song sounds exactly the same. Corey's vocal style is different on that one. I like the way they went on Reedemer, but Bless the Martyr will always have a special place in my heart. It is indeed a masterpiece.

Oh God definitely was a completely different CD, it sounded way more intense. Redeemer is more slowed down in my opinion with more melody.

O' God has been growing on me lately. I think it just needed alot of time. It's so hard to listen to that album as a follow up to Bless The Martyr. I pretty much view Norma Jean as a different band altogether since Josh left.

When ever I listen to a record and I have listened to a previous record, I always aproach it with the state of mind that it will probably be completely different, so perhaps that is why I wasnt shocked by O' God, or by Redeemer.

Eitherway, Im still not sure why people cant just enjoy O' God.

Their main complaint is that all the songs sound the same, but on BTMAKTC the songs are the same way. Most of them sounded very similar, with only minor rythmic differences. The ones that were radically different from the other songs on the album, though they did stand out, did not impress me (not as much as Memphis, Face:Face, and so on).

O' God is the same as BTMAKTC in that respect, so I dont understand how people cannot draw that comparison.

Redeemer, on the otherhand, is a completely different prospect. While many of the songs are the same as on the other 2 albums, it presents a totally different aspect of Norma Jean. The song writing and the music writing is alot different. I hate to use the term Emo (hate isnt what I mean, but there is no term stronger than hate...), but many of the songs presented that element to their music that wasnt there before. Also, the riffs become a little more complex and deffinative. They actually felt like they were moving toward something. On BTMAKTC you didnt have alot of that, it was more prevalant on O' God, and clearly a prime factor in the musicality on Redeemer.

To me this just seems to be a band evolving to something better and higher. Where they will stop, I have no idea, but I am eager to see where they are going with all of this. Remember, Norma Jean has had a bit of a troubled history after Josh left, and now they have a stable line up, but even with that it seems that they are still trying to feel out what it is that they have inside of them. Part of this is going to be trying to find new and different sounds, or to repurpose old sounds. Either way, i like what they have become.

And for all the critics of Norma Jean I have this to say; You can go listen to the Chariot if you like. That band seems to be following the old tradition of Norma Jean. But, if you want to listen to a band that is progressing through the sounds that the new members have brought in, then listen to Norma Jean.

*edit*

Also, lets keep in mind that we are discussing a band that NEVER had a sophmore slump, unlike most other bands.

You're right, but I didn't find that the songs on Bless the Martryr sounded the same. Same deal with Reedemer. The guitarwork on Reedemer is what really pulled me in. Very techincal and complex. On O God, it just seemed like they were banging some low heavy power chords and hitting the same 2 high notes in between. I think the best demonstration of that is on Bayonetwork.

I view Bless the Martyr completely different. It never gets old to me, and that's the only album of NJ's that I find flawless. They took hardcore and pushed it past it's limits.

I'm a huge fan of BTMAKTC, O' God, and Redeemer
But does anyone listen to the older stuff, when they were Luti-Kriss?
I was buying some cds, and Colin from Stereotrap was there and we were talking about Norma Jean, and he showed me the Luti-Kriss stuff, which i have never listened to. I really liked it, i'm gonne go buy that cd. And i think they have some sort of EP of Luti-Kriss too. I heard that was rap metal, but i have never gave it a listen.

I havnt listened to any of the Luti-kriss stuff, but I hear that its amazing.

Someday I would like to give a listen to some of that stuff and hear for myself whether or not its any good.
