Just wanted to get peoples opinions on this. Any hardcore Pillar fan Knows Noah is capable of more than nu-metal. All you have to do is see some of his spot solos live and you will realise this. I think Where Do We Go From Here will be Pillars last nu-metal album. The reason why? Take the song "Dirty Little Secret", and youll see what I mean. Its a speed metal song, complete with an awesome solo. I think they put that on there to see how fans react. The song is pretty popular (as far as I can tell) and, hopefully, Pillar will see that and mabey there next album will be speed metal. Mabe thats why they titled the album 'Where Do We Go From Here" I would love that so much. We need a good christian speed metal band. Not that Pillars nu-metal stuff is bad, I would just like to see Noah actually use all of his talents. It would be awesome. What do you guys think?

Speed metal is insanely fast metal with very technical drums and guitars.

I think you will not see it. Pillar has their fingers on the pulse of pop-culture, and has gotten pretty soft. Dirty little secret is kinda like nu-metalized pop-punk. It reminds me of burn out era slick shoes with nu-metal vocals. It is about as speed metal as it is gregorian chant. I listened to the solo and the whole song as I posted that... Its just not speed metal, and I can't play speed metal, but the fact is, I could play that solo, and I am not great.

Yeah, I don't know a perfect definition for speed metal, but even I know that Pillar is not remotely speed metal.

Allright, so mabey I was quick to say speed metal, but it is a pretty fast tempo song. Mabey they wont become a speed metal band. You never know with Pillar. Yeah, they are good just the way they are, but they could always evolve. I mean, they started playing songs from Above at there concerts again. Mabey they will go back to thoes roots. Mabey that was their plan all along. Mabey they wanted to waterdown there music to get more people listining, and then smack them over the head with a hard, non-nu-metal album. Mabey they will go back to the same style of lyrics they used on Above and Fireproof. Well, I guess we wont know until they release a new CD. I havent given up on them yet. I guess everybody has their own opinion on such a high-profile band, and thats cool, so thoes who disagree with me on the speed metal thing, thats fine. Thats not what important in life anyway. Holy crap, that was long. Sorry I didnt stick on the subject. Oh well. Still, if you have an opinion, please share it with me. God bless.

I think they are being good businessmen and marketing to the masses and will continue to follow trends to sell albums. (I mean no harm, but thats how bands eat)

I know, and thats unfoutunate. Pillar just has the ability to be really creative if they tried, and I hope they do go with it. I just hope they dont completely sell out just to make money. That would be so,uh, un-pillarish. I guess all we can do is pray for them.

Dude, what do you mean sell out? Thats what they have done the whole way through. Write music, and sell it to make money. And there is not a thing wrong with that.

No-By sell out I meant spiritually. Sorry, I kind of changed subjects fast. I still enjoy their music. I just hope there message doesnt become so waterd down that there is none. Thats what makes me mad about alot of mainstream Christian bands is that they are afraid to talk about God because they might lose part of their audience. That would be the only reason I would stop listining to Pillar. Except for if they became a pop-punk band.:)

I see your point, ChurchPunk, but I also don't think any band should for any reason feel obligated to mention God in its lyrics. That's why I think the Christian music scene can sometimes be silly or cheezy, because bands feel like they have to in some way mention their beliefs or produce an album with a spiritual theme.

Yeah, I know what you are trying to say. And your right. I just don't want Pillar, a band who started out with some of the most spiritual lyrics, to turn into another "My woman left me my life is ruined" type of band. Its hard for me to take Christian bands that do that seriously, you know. Pillar is in a very good position to reach out right now, and I hope they dont pass up on the opportunity to do that. Thats my biggest problem. Yeah, it would be cool to see Pillar develop a diffrent style of music, but if they are called to stay in the music scene they are in right now, then I am cool with that, and I will still be a Hardcore Pillar fan.

I see where you're coming from, and I kind of agree. But, I think it can be pretty cool when there's a spiritual theme going on in an album -- HOWEVER - here's where my thought changes - I don't believe it is necessary for a Christian band to do so. I think it's really more important to honor God with your life rather than just with a song.
But I don't really feel it's cheesy or silly to mention God in your lyrics, I just think it's better to honor Him with your life because anyone can go sing a song about Him, it takes a real person to live a life for Him. :-/

Very true. It is cool that a band can honor God with their lyrics, but actions do speak louder than words. And Pillar does live it, as far as it seems. So thats cool.
