No Greater Love
by Steven Curtis Chapman

Capo on 4
intro and verse chords:
-E- -C#- -D- -B-
079xxx 046xxx 057xxx 024xxx

play 2x

E C#m D B
Man of courage with your message of peace

E C#m D B
What is that look in your eyes?

E C#m D B
Why have you come to this far away place?

F#m E D
What is this story you would lay your life down to tell?

F#m E G
What kind of love can this be?

         A E F#m
There is no greater love than this

         A E F G
There is no greater gift that could ever be given

         A E F#m
To be willing to die so another might live

         F G E C#m D B
There is no greater love than this.

Verse 2 (same chords)
Broken hearted from all you have lost
How can you sing through your tears?
What is this music that can bear such a cost?
What is this fire that grows stronger against the wind?
What kind of flame can this be?

         A E F#m
There is no greater love than this

         A E F G
There is no greater gift that could ever be given

         A E F#m
To be willing to die so another might live

         F G F#m
There is no greater love than this.

             F A
This is the love that God showed the world

F#m F
When He gave us His Son

So we could know His love forever

Beyond the gates of splendor

This is the most under-rated song of chapman's. It is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard. The chords are perfect and I love playing it.

awesome song. period.

nooo i don't have a capo

card_shark - 2006-08-14

you should buy one. they're somewhat expensive, but it will open up the universe of guitar playing. Imagine: playing any song you like in the key that suits your voice, never having to transpose another piece of music by hand, if the song's in C, and you're better in D, slap that capo on the 2nd fret, and tear away at it. Get one of those clamp-style capos, by Kyser.

Excellent song, great tabs. I play acoustic only, so the chords didn't seem to work at first - powerchords don't always quite do it for acoustic, y'know? But, I used the listed powerchords on the intro and first four lines of the verses, then used full chords after that. To do this, you need to have the high e string open all the time (of course you can mute it too, but don't play anything higher on it or it sounds bad). So you'll use Dsus2, Fmaj7, F#m7, and Gmaj6 - xx0230, x33210, 044200 and x55430 respectively (In place of D, F, F#m, and G). Hope that helps.

Oh and one minor correction on the previous comment, I always transpose backwards like that - if you capo 2 and then play in relative D, you're playing in real E, not C. If a song is in C and you want to play it in D, you'd have to capo at 10 or tune down a whole step. Just something to watch out for.

Ah but I realize I misunderstood what card shark said after all. If I confused you ^^^^, he means if you want to sing in D, you can play relative C capo'd at 2nd fret, and I mean if you want to sing it in C but play relative D, you'd have to capo it up to 10th.

Good tab throughout. Thanks for the good work. But I think it sounds a bit better if at "so another might live" in the chorus you go from F#m to F#m7 on "live" (just lift your pinky if you're playing a barre chord at the 2nd fr.).
