the other version of this was close but there were a few chords that weren't
included in the verse and chorus primarily.  also the prechorus was a little
off.  this sounds a little better to me.

E E/G# (you can hear where the bass line moves)

**they play this chorus after verse 1 and 2, then when they repeat the chorus
the bass line moves around the first time through the chords, mostly around the
first line...he goes to the G# earlier, and then he goes to an F#, but I think
its just the bassist moving around, I think the guitars stay the same but I
can't tell for sure, so that part may sound a little bit off, that's why.

That's still an F#m7, either way you play it works fine

Instead of droning on E on the intro and in between verses, you can achieve of facsimile of the lead guitar by playing E, E2, Esus:
