Relient K
Anatomy of the Tongue In Cheek
Pressing On
(c)2001 GoTee Records

When I came on to get this tab, I was terrified to see that out of ten tries,
no one had gotten "Pressing On" right. I couldn't be more positive that this
is right.
So here goes:

AWSOME TAB! I thought I had this song down, but you brought out some things I hadn't realized were there.

i'm a freak - 2004-08-11

good except for the intro is WAY off!
heres a way that sounds way better:

D--6--3h4-----3-----8--3h4-4-4--3-----
A--4------6-6---6---6------2-2----6---
E---------4-4-------------------------

Ryan H - 2004-08-31

Awesome tab job! This is a great song.

vwong1689 - 2004-09-05

i agree this is a good tab. i think ur intros fine. i thought i had it right but i compared urs to the song. good ear!

punkymunkypsych - 2004-09-09

Rockin' awsome great tab! Your intro is perfect. For those of you who want something a little easier though, and I think this is right. You can also play it like this:
D--6----------------------------------------3p1
A--4---8h9----6--6----8p6---8---8h9--2--2------
E-------------4--4----------6--------4--4------

Same thing except for the last part. The 3 and 1 sound the same as the 8 and 6 and you don't have to move as far to get to it.

sack - 2004-09-20

Hey Mr. I'm a freak.
If you're gonna critisize my intro tab, at least
tab your correction the right way. You put a couple of
numbers on the wrong line. And if the way I tabbed it
sounds wrong, maybe you're not playing it right and/or
fast enough
Will

truffle shuffle - 2004-10-01

hey awsum job on the tab.....the intro is exactly right so dont change it......hi five.

cryistalrider - 2004-10-01

hey im just wondeing what u ment in the intro when u said use pinky can u just use 1 fing 2 fing then 3fing i think the soung sounds good sry bout spelling

superstratpower - 2004-10-07

actually i agree with i'm a freak... your intro was off, sorry to say, and freak's version was corrdect... that's the way i've played it for over a year and a guitar teacher tabbed it for me.

scorpio9731 - 2004-10-08

i think it sounds very good ive played it over and over and it sounds like the exact song to me and superstratpower if your teacher tabbed the song out for you why are you looking for a tab here and criticizing someone eles tab just because it isnt the same as what you play my teacher(ive been playing for a year)played this and it sounded just like the song why dont you submit yours on here if you think its better anyway awesome tab man thanks:D

superstratpower - 2004-10-08

my teacher (this is a long time ago i'm saying) only tabbed the intro so i was looking to see what other people tabbed for the prechorus cuz that's the only part i can't figure out. but then i saw the intro. it should be played like this:
G--------------------------------------------------------
D--6----3h4---------3--1----3----3h4-----------3--1------
A--4----------6-6-----------1-----------4-4--------------
E-------------4-4-----------------------2-2--------------

and besides, if it's wrong then it's wrong and i have no problem criticizing it if i think it will help. with the originally tabbed intro, if youre playing the C# -6-- then there is no possible way that the A# (6 fret on A
-4--
----
string) hammer-on is correct. besides, i don't know where you're hearing the third note in the hammer-on (6h8h9). there's only two there. so, for all that were wondering, that is why i bothered to point anything out.

sack - 2004-10-11

Hey.
Thank you so much for all the feedback guys. You guys really make me think
about what I'm doing. Thank you (sincerely). Anyway. I wanna see what you guys
think of this. Do you think that maybe Matt does: ?

E------------------------|------------------------|
B------------------------|------------------------|
G------------------------|------------------------|
D--6---------------------|------------------------|
A--4-x-8-8h9--6-6---8--6-|--8-x-8-8h9--4-4---8--6-|
E-------------4-4--------|--6----------2-2--------|

To do this you kinda have to half strum it?:
v v ^ v v v v v v v ^ v v v v v
D--6---------------------|------------------------|
A--4-x-8-8h9--6-6---8--6-|--8-x-8-8h9--4-4---8--6-|
E-------------4-4--------|--6----------2-2--------|

Sorry. I've never tabbed ryhthm on a computer so the strokes are just pointing
the direction of the stroke. Hehe.

Yeah. Just another suggestion.

I know now that I probably tabbed it wrong before. Sorry. But the correction tabs you guys sent can't be right either. I think he does what you guys sent the first time and then you can hear that there's something extra in there right before the hammer. Thanks again for the criticism. (Not sarcasm). Yeah, also, this is my little sister's user name thing. I enter tabs on hers because I'm too lazy to get my own. She told me to say that cuz she doesn't wanna have a badreputation. (that IS one word). Yeah. But try this one. Is it any good?
Gracias.

Will

sack - 2004-10-11

Wow.
It sounds right.
Will

jsoccer - 2004-10-15

this is exactly what ive been for perfect tab

jsoccer - 2004-10-24

just saw music video, during chorus, intro, and between chorus second and third
time, they don't just hit the chord but strum about three times and switch chords.

sack - 2004-10-24

Yeah.
I was just too lazy to include all the rhythms. Sorry.
Uh. Actually, they do a little more than that, but maybe
I'll tab it again with corrections.
Thanks,
Wi l l

rockon3dw - 2004-12-08

Good job tabbing this, i just wanted to say that the superstratpower dude was correct because ive seen these guys 3 times in concert and watched how he does it carefully and thats the right fingering. so yea good job dude
Ryan

krutchfan66 - 2004-12-12

yeah man dat was rawkin!

savedone - 2005-01-24

Hey your tan is awesome...Fine job...I am really impressed as a more experienced guitar play commenting...it sounds correct of course i havent heard the song...dont listen to the bad comments...tabs arent meant for exact perfection anyway...a true musician only uses it as help and well youve done a good job helping me out thanks a bunch..
Sincerly,
sam

WingedCousin - 2005-01-24

I could be wrong but it sounds like 2 guitars with one playing the intro and another playing the chorus. My opinion
wingedcousin

WingedCousin - 2005-01-24

Never mind thats what you had. I probably should have read it more carefully. sry bout that :)

Georgenewton - 2005-02-01

Awesome tab man, you honestly should be proud of yourself. Way to go

AcousticServant - 2005-02-03

i'm not sure about this, but instead of E: 2 A: 4, i tink it's E: 1 A: 3 in the intro...and instead of playing 6 and 8 on the A string, play 3h4 and 3p1 on the d string...i think that'll make it easier...awesome tab though!

AcousticServant - 2005-02-03

o yea...and don't u use power chords, muting the B and the high e strings?

AcousticServant - 2005-02-03

i meant power chords in the intro...and also...i tink it'd b easier if u use A: 1 and D: 3 instead of E: 6 and A: 8

sack - 2005-02-03

Those aren't power-chords in the intro? What are they then?

jamforchrist123 - 2005-02-09

I Got Kinda A Pointless Question. Does Matt Play His Power Chords Like This?:

D]-6- D]---
A]-6- Or This: A]-6- I Was Just Curios.
E]-4- E]-4-

Also Another Pointless Question. Do You Play Your Power Chords With Fingers 1,2,3? Or fingers 1,3,4?

sungmintd - 2005-02-13

ok sack, power chords r awesome but they are 3 strings and not 2 for a 5 chord, its like:

d-3------
a-5------
e-5------

and not

a-3-----
e-5-----

sungmintd - 2005-02-13

oh forgot, nice job. perfect as far as i played. this is good specially cuz im doing this for the talent show. well, i found this one that said the intro was this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---3h4------3--1----3h4--------3--1--------------------------------
-4-----------------------------------------------------------------
-------4--4------6--------2--2-------------------------------------

sorry if it is cramped
but after i found yours im like "that cant be right" so i listened to the song 10 times or so and im like "whoa that is fully correct" cuz i heard the thing in between the hammer and the chord which was soposed to be there.

thx for the tab

sung OuT

sack - 2005-02-13

Um.
Power chords are played:
D-5- D-3-
A-5- Not: A-5-
E-3- E-5-
There's a big difference.
Will (or Sack)

sungmintd - 2005-02-13

ok well, sry to 3-in-a-row post, but on the double hammer in the intro, there is none, just a note then a hammer

sack - 2005-02-13

And it doesn't have to use 3 strings. Not always. In fact, I've found that
in other forms of rock besides Punk, they usually use the 2 string version.

Will (Again)

sack - 2005-02-13

Oh. Yeah. If you read through the comments, I posted a correction for the Intro.

sungmintd - 2005-02-14

ok sry, well i play my power chords the 3 string and i just call the 2 stringed ones 5's. btw sry i didnt relize u were the one who posted the corections, its much easier though, thx

sungmintd - 2005-02-14

oh yeah, on the correction of the intro, it needs just the palm mute 8 and cut out the 8 b/c thats what it sounds like

dtaylorl - 2005-02-20

Just a question about the second chord in the verse... I have seen it as:
5 5 6 (5)
6 & 5 & 6 & 6
3 3 3 3

I know it's just a small difference... but anyone know which one in correct?

dtaylorl - 2005-02-20

I'll try this again... the chords I have seen are as follows:
5-5-6--(5)
6-5-6--6
3-3-3--3

jamforchrist123 - 2005-03-14

Heres A Poll.
Do You Play Your Power Chords With These Fingers: 1-2-3 Or These Fingers:1-3-4?

skid - 2005-03-16

I usually play 134 or just 1&3 w/ 3 barring both of the other strings

jamforchrist123 - 2005-03-18

The Reason I Ask Is I Use The 1-2-3 Style And I Find That After Your Fingers Get Over The Pain Of The Stretching, It Is Easier To Do. I Also Happend To See Matt H. Do Them Like This.

Preacher Punk - 2005-04-09

i use the 1,2,3 finger option most often but after an hour or so your hand will cramp up, 1,2,3 finger option is easier (which why i use it more)--- but, the 1,3,4 form is easier on my hand, probably better in the long run to use 1,3,4 just to keep your hand from cramping

good tab, keep rockin, God bless

cj

Timberwolf - 2005-05-22

Yeah the intro is
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
6xx---------------3xx-------------
6xx-3h4-66-2/3----3xx-3h4\---4-3--
4xx-----66-----6--1xx--------4---6
--------44-----------------2-2----

shockyouthEG - 2005-06-27

wow, you guys have the song down pretty darn good...nice tab!!!
i learned this one on my own and figured the intro out like this, but almost all the ways posted on this tab sound great.
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
-4-xx--------------------------------------- v= downstroke
-4-xx-3h4--44--3-----6-xx-3h4--22--3-------- ^= upstroke
-6-xx------44----6---6-xx------22----6------
-----------66--------8-xx------44-----------
v v^ v vv ^ v v v^ v v ^ v

shockyouthEG - 2005-06-27

nvm the stroke pattern, it got messed up somewhere between me writing it and me posting it, sry for that

jkim519 - 2005-10-04

Man why does everyone comment.... sigh my finger hurts from scrolling down... anyways, this tab pwns it's like the best tab i've seen so far

jkim519 - 2005-10-04

yo why's everyone fighting over if the intro's right or not? cuz we're all christians.......right? God wouldn't care if we play bad music, as long as we all worship him. AMEN?!?

cannonball121ep - 2006-01-15

AMEN!

musicman1174 - 2006-02-14

i agree with jkim519, great tab by the way.

young_rocker_06 - 2006-02-19

Great tabs guys(and girls to whom this may apply)! This song is just a little too fast for me but I'm learning!

Chris

everyday sunday - 2006-02-21

i play the intro like this:

e--------------------------------------
b--------------------------------------
g--6-----------------3-----------------
d--6--3h4------3-1---3---3h4-------3-1- and repeat it a couple times
a--4-----------------1-----------------
e---------4-4-----------------2-2------

disco_stew - 2006-03-27

i'm a freak is right about the intro, I slowed it down in media player, with all the strings the intro (how i play it, i'm pretty certian that it's correct, but there's different ways 2 pay it) is:

D-----6---3h4------------------------------------|
A-----4---------6-6---8--6---8---8h9---4-4---8--6|
E---------------4-4----------6---------2-2-------| etc.

note: hold the 8 in the 8--6 parts for a little longer than you normally would, the 8 and the 6 aren't the same length

Highest House - 2006-09-28

On the issue of how to play a power chord:
134 is superior for many reasons. First, it is easier. Second, it enables you to put 2 on either the 8nd or 9rd of the chord, two very crucial and beautiful notes notes for certain sounds. Third, I think that it looks cooler and more like a 'power' chord.
134 have a distinct 'higherness' about them with that added 4. 13 are easier for faster songs like Lion-O and stuff.
Ultimately, electric guitars with distortion rock the world.
Chris

+SEAL+ - 2006-11-23

Nice! disco_stew variation on the intro seems really good to me...I know Matt does something tricky there, but so far that intro looks close. I personally would prefer to play both hammer-ons as 8h9 on the A string, but that is a personal preference.

Now if only I can get the timing down on that acoustic ending...
