Switchfoot
Meant to Live
The Beautiful Letdown

Dustin the Wannabe Tabber

This tab is not 100% correct, and I am not an experienced tabber,
so anyone can expand upon it if they wish. The 7 in parantheses is
a note that I think I hear, but I'm not sure. Also, I am really
unsure about the chorus, I'm kind of guessing on some of those, so
once again, somebody do it right. Spread The Foot!

greg

6_StringAdam - 2004-08-03

YES I AGREE 100% IT IS IN DROP D FOR SURE.
SORRY.
I ALSO LOVE EVERYBODY.
-ADAM PEARCE

willis1 - 2004-08-20

It's wrong dude, yeah everyone b4 you said it was drop D, true. Now you need to bend the 4th fret on you 4th string and strike the G string at the same time to get the switchfoot thing. So try:
E----|
B----|
G---0-| <--
D--4/5--| <-- Strike the two strings 2gether to make that riff
A----|
D----|

whatsup - 2004-09-07

no guy, you dont do that. you simply bend the 9th fret on the a string. like this

A--9b10b9-

that simple.
life is great

DianeLovesJesus - 2004-10-02

Drop who????????? just kidding

Rescue - 2004-10-05

Dude! you don bend it you slide
E|--------------
B|--------------
G|--------------

GuitarBeemer - 2004-10-06

no,
you most definately bend

mcds - 2004-10-07

you defednetly bend it

lespaulstudio - 2004-10-07

it doesn't matter if you slide or if you bend they both kinda sound similar

D --------4s5s4-------4s5s4--------4s5s4---00----------4s5s4-2-0--4-0-----------
A -222-----------000---------------------------------22---------------------------4-2-----
E ---------------------------------333---------------------------------------------------------

if you don't want to slide, then you just bend the D string on the 4th fret...

lespaulstudio - 2004-10-07

sorry about the lines on the tabs, i thought i corrected it...

d ---------4s5s4--------4s5s4-------4s5s4--00------4s5s4---2-0-4-0
a -222------------000-------------------------------22------------------------4-2
e-----------------------------------333

if you dont wnat to slide bend the d string on the 4th fret

newbeginner_17 - 2004-10-13

Does it even matter what way you play it? as long as you play as an act of worship of, then it doesn't matter how you play it.

newbeginner_17 - 2004-10-13

whoops, i forgot, God, as a part of an act of worship of God.

GuitarBeemer - 2004-10-28

that's exactly right newbeginner.
but, we want it to sound like the song, at least.
but, excellent point.

drummaster12345 - 2004-11-01

Personaly i think you bend it at the 9th fret on the A string but, there is no difference if you bend at the 4th fret on the D string.

God bless you all and let your talents be used for nothing but God.

drummaster12345 - 2004-11-01

skator521 - 2004-11-20

OMG PEOPLE HAVE YOU SEEN THEM PLAY THIS SONG? THEY BEND TRUST ME. .....SLIDING WAT THE HECK? NO YOU BEND ON THE THE MIDDLE D STRING ON THE 4TH FRET BUT YOU BEND UP AND BARELY HIT THE G STRING OPEN AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE SEEN LIKE 5 DIFFERENT VIDEOS OF THIS SONG AND THEY BEND.

xxkrzaznxx - 2004-11-20

UnDiGnIfIeD18 - 2005-01-05

Hey guys .... I got an idea .... LEARN TO PLAY THE DRUMS!!!! Ha ha, just kidding guys, keep rocking out, God Bless!

Drummin'_PK - 2005-01-11

Ha Ha, I agree... I just can't believe ya'll made a whole page about SLIDIND or BENDING, I mean C'mon... It doesn't matter! Lol, as long as you still sound good !!!

Drummin'_PK - 2005-01-11

By the way, they do slide...

Laukala - 2005-01-12

honestly you guys, it dosn't matter. God dosn't care if it sounds a little bit off. I am so suprised you guys actually made part near a whole page wether its slide or bend. I thought it was bend but now im gonna try the slide and see what i perfer to use. if you are tallennted enough you can make the slide and bend sound identicle.

dcfan87 - 2005-04-30

it is a bend ad release, not a quick bend that most people try though. It is in drop D. I play the intro like this:

B5 A5 G5 G5 A5
E------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------
G------------------------------------------
D------4b5r4------4b5r4-----4b5r4-5-5\7-7-7
A-2-2-2------0-0-0----------------5-5\7-7-7
D----------------------5-5-5------5-5\7-7-7

Thats how i learned it. the tonalities are the same, but if you play it on the A string, your strings have more room to vibrate and you will get better sound.

IlUvSwItChFoOt - 2005-05-19

hey everyone, this is the real tab for the song:
(drop D tuning)
b= bend
r= release bent string
~= let it ring out
*= palm mute

e-------------------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------------------
G--4-4-4---------2-2-2---------------------------------- 2x

A--2-2-2---------0-0-0---------2-2-2---------5-5-5--7-7-
D------------------------------0-0-0---------5-5-5--7-7-

A second guitar plays this solo while the first guitar plays the intro for the second time:

e------------------------
B------------------------
G------------------------
D--4-5-4-2-0-4-0-------5~
A----------------4-0-2-5~

Order of the song:

Intro
Intro/solo (at the same time)
verse

thats how me and my friends play it so enjoy.

IlUvSwItChFoOt - 2005-05-19

hey everyone my computer messed up when i was tabbing the chorus so here it is:

e---------------------------------------------------------------------------
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------------------------------------
D-5-5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-9-9-9-9-9-2-2-4b-4r-5-5-5-5-5-2-2--4b-4r--5-5-5-5-5-2~
A-5-5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-9-9-9-9-9-2-2-------5-5-5-5-5-2-2---------5-5-5-5-5-2~
D-5-5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-9-9-9-9-9-2-2-------5-5-5-5-5-2-2---------5-5-5-5-5-2~
----*-*-*-*---*-*-*-*---*-*-*-*-------------*-*-*-*---------------*-*-*-*---

If it messes up again then just listen to the song on the cd for the palm mutes

Drummerboy86 - 2005-06-12

First off i went to their concert and they bended the 4th fret, second off does it really matter if you bend or slide?,and finnaly i play my music to worship christ not to prove that im better or that im right you are wrong so there thats my case and to me it is closed.

Drummerboy86 - 2005-06-18

hi

Drummerboy86 - 2005-06-18

malachi_rocker5 - 2005-06-20

e-----------------------------------------------------------
B-----------------------------------------------------------
G-----------------------------------------------------------

e-----------------
B-----------------
G-----------------
D--0-2-0----0-2-7-

Fortress182 - 2005-07-28

Hey guys, i agree its sliding.

Fortress182 - 2005-07-29

COuld Anybody Tab Out Stars?

jossyb2000 - 2005-10-24

Hehehe nearly 101 thousand views on thsi tab and we cant decide if its bend or slide :P my 2 cents is its a bend but im only basing that on a radio interview i heard with the guyz where they were asked that question :P so soz if i spoil ne1's fun...... ooooooo controversy hehehehehe i rather find all this ammusing

jesusfreak936 - 2005-10-27

Its definetely in drop D and i think they bend too............LLAMAS!!!!!!!!!!

GuitarMaster87 - 2005-11-23

I guess it's pointless, but i'll throw my 2cents in. THEY BEND IT. DUH.
and yes. God enjoys every act of worship, it's a joyful noise to him whatever it sounds like, unlike people, do not enjoy it so much when you screw up.

gtr_lover1990 - 2006-01-19

when i was learning it for my church band, what i heard was they were on the D string, fourth fret and hammering onto the fifth fretand pulling back off onto the fourth fret.

Got music? - 2006-02-20

i think it goes like this
all down strokes
and this is just the intro

b=BEND

e-----------------------------------------------------------
b-----------------------------------------------------------
g-----------------------------------------------------------
d--9-9-9------------7-7-7------------5-5-5------------5-5-5-7-7-7-7
a--9-9-9---9b10b9---7-7-7---9b10b9---5-5-5---9b10b9---5-5-5-7-7-7-7
e--7-7-7------------5-5-5------------3-3-3------------3-3-3-5-5-5-5 then back to the beginning

CORRECT! i don't drop my low E to a D.

yeah and i'm pretty sure they don't slide (which yall stated)

hope it sounds good for ya

Got music? - 2006-02-20

ya i was messing around and everything on that D don't play i think it sounds a little better

thanks

gnarlyfresh_mee - 2006-03-24

acctually, I think this tab is pretty good, that's almost exactly how I play it.. at least I play it with the power chords.. and it sounds fine in "regular tuning"..

PEACE!

GOD BLESS!!

<>< <><

Basshammer2000 - 2006-04-06

I'd say that much of it would depend on if the guitar was tuned or not but it all comes down to how you like to play

susbandgeek1990 - 2006-05-06

gnarlyfresh_mee - 2006-05-18

yeah I understand what you ment susbandgeek1990....

That is the most accurite tab and that is the exact same way I play it with my band. That's 100% correct. But, yeah It does all boil down to how you like to play and how it sounds, to you only. So, Peaceout guys! and God Bless.

-Ryan.

well everybody needs to stop fighting about it... if u want to get it perfectly right get "The Beautiful Letdown" guitar music book... i can play this song perfectly because of it and i can play some of the other songs from it

jaguar777 - 2006-06-13

Yes, I agree with christianrckfan. If you want to know how it is REALLY played then just buy the book.
