My way to play this one with thumb (Yes, funky!)
Note that it's in F (because I've found G to be TOO high to sing!)... 
You can play the same way from G too!

I have a fiver and I think it's easier to play with it, but with a four
string bass just play the F on E (fret 1) and Bb and C on A (frets 1 and 3)...
(When playing in G fiver has no difference with four string)

        Very fast... You'll get it easily when playing the pop then slamming
        the D-string with your thumb and not letting it bounce up again and
        right after that popping 5 from G and hammering on the 7.
